My family and I were on holiday in London recently and on the Saturday evening we were booked to see a show that started at 7.30pm so we needed to find somewhere to eat in the West End where we could be in and out fairly quickly.
We stumbled upon La Tasca in St Martins Lane in The West End and having previously visited our local La Tasca in Plymouth a couple of times decided to eat there. It did look small from the outside so peeped in first to see how big it was and if it was really busy.
Appearances are deceptive and inside it really stretched back a very long way and it was busy but not heaving. The tables were laid out really well and nobody seemed to encroaching on anybody elses space. The atmosphere was calm, relaxed and candlelit and bearing in mind it was about 6pm and still light outside, we felt away from the hustle and bustle of things and ready to order. The Restaurant was non-smoking.
The good thing about these tapas restaurants is that you just order a selection of either small or large plates of the dishes you like/want to try out. When the food arrives you just help yourselves and hope your companions are not too greedy!
Anyway we ordered and the drinks came straight away followed by the food about ten minutes which was piping hot and delicious and made a change from the usual burger and fast food places. We were glad to eat "proper food". Our selection included: Pan Fresco(fresh bread) Patatas Bravas(deep fried potatoes in spicy sauce) Croquetas de Champinones(mushroom croquettes) Brochetta de Pollo(chicken and red pepper skewers) Albondigas a la jardinera(meat balls in vegetable and tomato sauce) Prices range from £3.50-£3.85 for the small plates
If you are vegetarian there are plenty of dishes suitable here.
We even had time for desserts of white and dark chocoate mousse £3.95 each, very tasty and nicely presented.
If you enjoy Paella these are available between 6pm and half an hour before closing for two or more people to share. Prices per person are between £8.25 and £9.25. A vegetarian one is included too.
A full drinks menu is on offer which includes the usual wines, beers and soft drinks plus pitchers of Sangria.
The toilets were situated downstairs and were very nice and clean.
The website gives details of all the restaurants from Aberdeen to Plymouth with the full menu and price list . You can hold a party at a restaurant for minimum of eight people and make table bookings either by email or telephone. So check out your nearest Restaurant and give it a try. www.latasca.co.uk

Never even heard of La Tasca, very helpful review though

I've had a couple of reasonable meals at La Tasca although I've been told that a lot of their food is pre-prepared off the premises. I don't know if this is true but the source was pretty reliable. Nothing wrong with that I suppose but I'd prefer freshly prepared food in a restaurant. Very good review anyway! David

I've not been here, but it sounds good. Tapas are certainly a good way of adapting the size of a meal to one's appetite, especially useful if you're eating early or late because of going to a show. Duncan
