I went to La Tasca mainly because it looks great from the outside, it has a great location, it is open on Sunday and it has a great menu (to view it, please visit www.latasca.co.uk).

The atmosphere was much better than any other Spanish restaraunt I have been to. It is also a much bigger place inside than it looks from the outside, spanning 3 floors. As far as location goes, it is on Maiden Lane in Covent Garden, right beside the new Porterhouse bar. The service was also good, although it was not very busy when we ate. Like any restaraunt in Covent Garden, it soon started filling up, especially the bar area in the front section.

Unfortunately that is where the compliments end. Some of the dishes were great, notably the garlic prawns and the side orders of olives and potatas bravas. The majority were average while some were not good at all. It is best to avoid the overcooked garlic chicken at all costs. The prices were reasonably good, coming to £16 per head including drinks. When it comes to it, I would have objected to paying more than this for the food we were served.

If you like great Spanish food and are in the area, instead try Meson Don Fillipe in Waterloo (about 5 minutes walk from the tube, down The Cut).

Addition 22 December 2002:
I recently went back to La Tasca. The food is better than in my previous review. However, there was one thing that I was absolutely disgusted with. I was there with some friends, including my sister and neice. Kids move around a it but always with a parents (or Uncle's watchful eye). She picked up a white plastic box from under one of the bench seats upstairs. It took a couple of seconds to realise that it was a rat trap. Not the snap kind, but the plastic tube that may also have poison in. I complained and was assured there was no poison in. Please be aware of this if anyone is taking children there.

I have increased my individual ratings for this restaurant but would not recommend it because of the rat trap. If you do not have kids, then I would recommend it.
