Advantages: Beautiful, unspoilt countryside. Captivating. Disadvantages: You won't want to come home!!!
...is breathtaking and I found it a very relaxing and invigorating experience.
Meeting of The Waters – Situated 10km from Killarney again on the N71. The ‘Meeting of The Waters’ is a place where the major lakes of the National Park converge. It is a place of striking natural beauty. It takes about 1hr to walk from the designated car park. Some of the walk is along a nominated footpath and then by following signposts through the countryside. The walk itself is as breathtaking as the view at the end and well worth a visit. Once reaching the ‘Meeting of The Waters’ you will find a coffee shop and toilets.
LadiesView – Situated 12km from Killarney on the N71. This is one of the most spectacular views of the National Park. From here you can see as far as the eye can see. Including Irelands highest mountain range...

Advantages: beautil scenery, friendly natives, Disadvantages: can get a bit damp
...We have been to Ireland twice now and always stay at the same place Kerry Mountain Cottages are just ace, situated at the base of the Kerry Mountains a short walk from the Gap of Dunloe. There are about 15 Cottages on a sloped site on the road from Killarney to Tralee, at a little village called Beaufort.
On our first visit we had cottage number one which as you might expect was the first cottage and at the mouth of the site, not the best one to go for, so on our second visit, when I was booking it up (with Swansea Cork Ferries) I requested that we have one with a view of the mountain and when we booked in (they use one of the cottages as an site office) they had given us cottage no 15 probably the best one on the site.
The cottages themselves have 3 bedrooms, a spacious lounge, fully fitted kitchens, dishwashers, microwaves...

Advantages: stunning location, large rooms Disadvantages: located outside town centre - best accessed by car
...We stayed here as part of our honeymoon in September 2005. The hotel is located 5-10 minutes drive from Killarney town centre and has an absolutely stunning location. The hotel overlooks the lake with lovely views of the mountains (including Macgillycuddy Reeks) and gap of Dunloe. You can go for peaceful walks in the grounds and walk right down to the lake. There is a tea house in the grounds.
Bedrooms:
We were upgraded from a golf view room to a lake view room - these are definitely worth the extra money if you want to enjoy the view. The rooms were really large and had balconies. However the decor is not the most up to date - decorated in rather old fashioned orange and gold. The bathroom is also huge - with a bath on one side of the room and toilet and shower on the other and two huge sinks. Lots of nice extras like dressing...
