Laganas Bay, Zante

We have been going to Laganas for the past 12 years on and off and since first visiting, now have two young children. We have always been on the Kalamaki side of the resort and always use that end of Laganas beach as its quieter. If you walk down from the main Laganas to Klamaki road, the best way to go is through the grounds of the Louis Zante Beach Hotel which leads you directly onto the beach. Here, you will not find rows of sunbeds and overcrowding. They are more dotted around and a short walk away, you can usually find a nice clear patch of sand to site yourselves on. The hotel also has a beach bar which is ideal for getting into the shade and having a refreshing drink or an ice-cream. Pedalo and Boat hire are available a short walk away, and on the beach front of the Hotel is a large childrens play ship which is great for entertaining the little ones. I would definintely recommend hiring a boat and shooting across to Marathonisi (Turtle Island). The water is clear and calm and the atmosphere is very laid back. A water taxi is on hand delivering snacks and drinks so you don't need to worry about taking too much.
On the whole, Laganas beach is ideal for families, as the water is calm and gently shelving. My daughter leaned to swim in this sea! The beach bar has toilet facilities which you can use without having to go into the bar itself. The other end of the beach near the main strip does get very crowded with row upon row of sunbed but if you follow the route we take you won't be disappointed. If you drive there, you can park under the trees in the entrance of the hotel.
