-----MONEY-----
Nothing is particularly more expensive than it is here! We came back with a lot of euros and didn't notice much of the prices as they were fairly normal. Some of the English pubs/restaurants were quite expensive, but just as expected really.
We paid approx 300 pounds each for thus holiday and it was really worth it! The accommodation and flights were included in this price.
----TRAVEL AGENT AND SEARCHING FOR YOUR HOLIDAY---
We booked our holiday on the internet about 6 months in advance. The website we used was Thomson's website. It is extremely useful for searching for holiday as it has all sorts of information, price ranges and the categories of holidays you may prefer. It also has reviews by previous holiday
makers so you get the whole truth about the holiday place!
Another good website for checking up on a hotel or resort/holiday destination, is Holiday Watchdog, which tells the whole truth and nothing but the truth on every detail and quetion posible.
PERSONAL TIP: dont go to the chinese restaurant in the centre of lagos! terrible service, cramped room with tables right beside each other and they laughed at us when we spoke!!!!!
-----MY EXPERIENCE-----
I went to Lagos for a week with my boyfriend last summer. It was a brilliant experience! You pronounce Lagos as Lagosh. The currency is in Euros.
About an hours drive in the bus from Faroairport. Pleasant jouney in the Thomson bus provided. Brief tour involved in this journey as the holiday rep gives details on the area and interesting facts, I still remember that talk to this day.
Lagos seems to thrive on tourism as everything is aimed at tourists. Hotels and appartments everywhere - it could be described as a Concrete jungle of holiday apartments. The streets, however, are kept quaint and humble. Pam trees everywhere, scenic walk with beautiful paved floors. The town centre is very sceanic due to the views of the sea and the fabulous old buildings.
There is a pretty castle looking type of building beside the beach in Lagos (do not go here as it is a waste of money although a pleasant view from the top of the building... otherwise hardly anything to see inside and annoying that you spent so much to get in!)
There was a lot of building work going on as we were staying there although we refused to let that dampen our experience (and it also means there will be a lot more built now to enjoy this summer).
There are lots of good places to eat (mostly cafes and bars/pubs in the centre of lagos, but if you go across the bridge to the port then there is a pizza hut and a HUGE mcdonalds was getting built).
Has internet cafes (cheap prices- approx 2 euros for 30 mins while we were there).
Has GORGEOUS beaches!! You can go down to Lago's beach which can be rather crowded but still is an amazing experience! Or you can go and visit many of the Algarve's other beaches. We met a couple that went to a beach close-by and swam around the corner to their own secluded beach! If there was someone there, they would swim onto the next one for privacy! There are many alcoves and beaches so privacy is free!
Waterparks close by! Good for family day trips out!
----FEEL LIKE A TRIP TO THE ZOO?----
If you feel like a day trip to the nearby zoo then a little word of advice.. only go if you have a mobile to phone for a taxi to get you home or if you have a rented car! We learnt the hard way as they don't have a phone at the zoo for you to call a taxi and its in the middle of nowhere.. we had to walk for atleast an hour to get to a phone to call a taxi!!! PLus, the zoo doesn't contain giraffes, tigers, lions etc. It contains only monkeys and birds which could be pleasant depending on your preferences.
-----EXTRA TIPS/INFO ----
Boiling hot! Don't forget the suntan lotion. We went at the end of July and it begun to get boiling as early as half 11 in the morning.
Very relaxed atmosphere. Great nightlife for all ages/categories of people! Friendly family orrientated pubs to thriving nightclubs.
Watch for people trying to sell outings.. only some are worth while! We payed 50 euros for a trip on a boat to see dolphins but didn't spot any, it was a nice boat ride but certainly not worth 50 euros!
A lot of English and Irish owned pubs and cafes so English is spoken almost everywhere. Plus if your not fond of foreign food theres lots of places that serve our normal food. There are loads of great chinese, Portugese, English restaurants and an Irish bar/pub we found which was very pleasant!
Pictures of Lagos (Portugal)
The more secluded/ rock pool area of Lago's beaches. Overlooked by a bar/restaurant.
great review! unfortunatly ill only have a reveiw of a caravan holiday in wales to offer so maybe ill not bother?? lol. kids looking farward to it tho so maybe i will!!
