I visited the Laguna Park 2 apartments for a week in November 2005. I hope you find this review helpful!
On top of the already great features at the Laguna Park 2 you can also use the facilities at Laguna Park 1 at the bottom of the hill.
Location
the Laguna Park 2 apartments are on the outskirts of Playa de las Americas near Costa Adeje. It is quite a long walk to the beach, and about 10 minutes to bars and restaurants. If it is the very lively part of Las Americas for example Veronicas strip this would be too far out. It is on "cardiac hill", you have to walk down a slope to the pool from most apartments. It would definitely not be suitable for those with walking difficulties as the hill is just too steep and long. There are a couple of lifts but whether they are working or not is a different matter. There is a taxi rank right outside the hotel, which came in useful. Taxi's are very reasonably priced so make the most of them! To get a taxi outside the airport it was about 18 euros from the airport to the apartments which was a lot cheaper than any of the transfers I've seen
online.
The Apartments
These are for 2-4 people, studios are also available. We had 2 people in a 2-4 person apartment. I don't think I would've liked to have 4 in it. There is one bedroom and a sofa with a pull out bed underneath it. In the bedroom there were 2 single beds, a dressing table and lots of storage space. The bathroom was a bath and shower and was clean and toileteries were provided. Not something I've seen very much of unless in a hotel. The lounge area had the sofa and pull out bed, also a TV which is pay as you go, you put money on a card at reception and slot the card into the TV box to watch it. The kitchen was well equipped with a breakfast bar, oven, microwave, sink, plenty of cutlery and crockery. There was a bottle of water left in the room for us when we arrived which was quite a nice touch. THere is a pan style kettle to put on the hob but if you want the luxury of an electric kettle you have to hire it.
Our apartment also had a little courtyard area with a clothes drying rail and a cupboard where we kept the lilos etc.
There is a safe in the rooms, these are large and cost 15 euros to hire for a week. The sockets are for two pin plugs. Ours already had adapters in them, but it may be worth taking one just in case.
The maids cleaned the room 5 times in the week, changed the bedding 2 or 3 times and the towels daily.
The Facilities
The pool was large, very clean and really nice. It was cold though. There are plenty of sun loungeres - FREE! You have to hire mattresses or parasols for them though. I think about 2 euro a day. There was a lifeguard there all the time although there were signs up saying there was no lifeguards so perhaps they aren't there all the time.
THe pool bar was good value, serving a range of drinks, snacks and ice creams. The music they played was terrible though but you can't be fussy!
There is also a suncare advisor who hangs around the pool bar who is very helpful, although she does try to sell you very expensive skin care products. Near the pool there are tennis courts, basketball nets, mini golf and table tennis. The equipment hire was good value and the facilities good.
Food and Drink
Other than the pool bar there is a restaurant for those eating half board, and another bar/restaurant which is very nice and good value. There is a supermarket on site which is good, selling a wide range of food and drink.
The bar area near reception also has a lounge and arcade area for people who perhaps don't want to watch the entertainment provided. There is live entertainment every night along with a quiz and bingo. The entertainment includes singers, dancers, comedians and magicians. There is also outdoor seating where you can sit and have a fantastic view. When the sun is setting you can see three other canary islands from the apartments.
There's are lots of plants and flowers around the apartment complex and a nice pond, these make a lotely setting for the apartments.
The reception staff and bar staff were helpful and spoke English. There is a courtesy room for luggage and reps are available a lot of the time in the reception area if you have any problems. There is also a board updated daily providing information on the days entertainment.
I would definitely go back to these apartments. The hill was a pain but with taxis being cheap it wasn't too much of a problem and it was a nice walk. It has a great location if you don't want to be in the centre in the commercialised areas and want nice views. These apartments would be perfect for anyone who doesn't want to leave the apartment complex too much. For those with children it would be good too. There are activities held around the pool for them and kids are welcome till anytime in the bar area. With the arcade and sports there is plenty for them to do. While the parents lounge around the pool getting a tan!
I read in a review on another site there were loads of cockroaches! If I'd read this before I'd booked the holiday I wouldn't have booked it. We didn't see one though - there were people who go around every few days squirting all the drains and manholes with some spray to keep them away though which I was very pleased about.
If you want luxury don't go there. If you want to be within a couple of minutes of the beach don't go there. If you don't want to do a lot of walking don't go there.
If you want a cheap, nice place to stay with nice views and a bit of peace and quiet here is the place to go.
