Oh I Do Like To Be Beside The- Countryside?

Advantages: Location, Service, Staff, Accomodation
Disadvantages: Couldn't find any

...Center Parcs and especially the Oasis Holiday Village. My own father used to work here as the manager of the cleaning department, a department which still maintains top quality I must add. Anyways, since the dreaded credit crunch British holidaymakers have chosen alternative resolutions to flying abroad. The British holiday is now as popular as ever, with places like Butlins and Haven filling up like the beaches on a bank holiday weekend. Whilst ...
...the holiday. Situated near Ulverston, Oasis Village is pretty much in the centre of the Lakes. Only a short bus ride to other attractions, such as Lake Windermere boat cruises, Aquarium Of The Lakes and South Lakes Wild Animal Park (a great zoo where I used to work) means that there is even more to do should you leave the actual resort. The actual resort then- compact in terms of what to expect and relatively large. The accommodation is well looked ...

Fall for a day by the lake

Advantages: An inexpensive day out that suits all the family
Disadvantages: Quite hilly

...favourite place of ours - Fell Foot Park and Gardens on the edge of the lovely Lake Windermere. We are lucky enough to live close enough to make this a regular place to visit, especially when our grandchildren are visiting. ~WHAT IS IT~ Fell Foot Park and Garden is owned by the National Trust. There was once a house in the grounds but that has long gone, the boat houses on the lake are all that remains of the old house. The National Trust have restored ...

...a Christmas visit to the South Tynedale Railway at Alston, Cumbria. About South Tynedale Railway The South Tynedale Railway is a 2 and a quarter mile track from Alston in Cumbria to Kirklaugh in Northumberland through the beautiful South Tynedale valley. Alston railway station sits 875 feet above sea level, in some of the countries most beautiful scenery, and is the highest narrow gauge railway in Northern England. The train which operates ...
...train. The South Tynedale railway is operated, managed and maintained by volunteers. The railway operates a passenger service between April and November, and a seasonal 'Santa Special' on weekends in December. It is the Santa railway rides which we as a family have enjoyed for the previous 4 years. Visiting The South Tynedale Railway As I just mentioned, we have visited the railway at Christmas for the last 4 years, but last year was the most ...

Chapel Farm

Advantages: a nice break
Disadvantages: British weather

...After looking I came across Chapel Farm Caravan Park in Little Asby. The Hoseasons site had a caravan available for 3 nights at a cost of £165, fairly cheap for the time we were going, there were some swings showing in one of the pictures so we decided to go for it, but first I checked if they had their own website which they did and it also said it had a games room, tennis courts, pool table and laundrette. I contacted the site directly by e mail ...
...we wanted and asked how much it would cost, I received an e mail back saying £35 per night meaning £105 for the 3 nights - a saving of £60. I asked them how far the nearest pub with food was and the nearest restaurant. The pub was 3 miles away and the nearest restaurant 8 miles. So we knew we were out in the middle of nowhere and had to take food wiht us. I don't know if it was the same caravan that we would have got through Hoseasons but the next ...

Solway Holiday Park

Advantages: the farm and hot tub
Disadvantages: people in our hot tub

...the place we stayed. Solway Holiday Park is situated in Silloth Cumbria (about 22 miles west of Carlisle) which is small village with a population of around 3000. If you want a town with lots going on then Silloth is not for you, it has a lovely large green and a great sea view although it is not a beach. It also has cafes and the odd take away along with some little shops and of course a Spar (everywhere seems to have a Spar). Near the green is ...
...quite easy to find I got the directions from greenflag. As we drove in through the entrance the reception was quite well sign posted, when we booked we were told booking in time was 4pm (which I thought was a bit late but thought we could probably use the facilities before then). As it happened we set off later than expected so with the hold up on the motorway we didn't get there until about 3.50pm. I went to reception for the key etc along with ...
