Our New Holiday Home
Advantages: Cosy, friendly, welcoming. Disadvantages: None
...bought a holiday lodge at Gatebeck holiday park on the outskirts of Kendal. It is in the perfect location to appreciate all of the surrounding natural beauty, as well as being close to shopping centres and markets while still enjoying the peace and tranquillity of the countryside. After viewing the complex and lodges, we decided to buy a lodge at this complex, as it was such a lovely place with so much surrounding nature. Along with my partner's ... ...I believe that Gatebeck only has owned lodges but many of these do seem to be rented out to holiday makers during the summer. There is plenty to do while at Gatebeck including South Lakes Wild Animal Park, The Aquarium of the Lakes, The World of Beatrix Potter, Lakeland Miniature Village, Ruskin Museum, Grizedale Park, Homescales Activity Centre, Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway, Windermere Lake Cruises, plenty of walks, world-class bird watching, ...

Great Holiday Park
Advantages: Lots to do, beautiful area Disadvantages: couldn't fit everything in.
Last year I holidayed at Fallbarrow Holiday Park (a park run by the company South Lakeland Parks), and have an absolutely brilliant time. A family of 7 of us all went to Fallbarrow together - me, my partner, my parents, my brother and his 2 children, who were at the time 5 and 2. We went in October last year, as my niece was on half term break. More information on Fallbarrow can be found at http://www.slholidays.co.uk/Fallbarrow, we also booked online ... ...Holiday Park * Fallbarrow Park is set in the perfect location between the borders of Lake Windermere and the beautiful parks of the Lake District. Churchill Hotel, Ambleside
Advantages: Good location, great rooms Disadvantages: Bad parking facilities, smokey bar
Even before you arrive at the hotel, you discover you can't fit down the steep alleyway to the 'car park', which has a severe lack of room and is virtually inaccessible by anything but a bicycle, even if you can squeeze through by folding the wing mirrors in, you have to inconvenience local traffic by having to turn several times to get in the gap.
Upon entering the hotel (at the time of my trip, this was done by dodging scaffolding which was not ... ...enter a disgustingly smokey pub, only to have to queue behind drinkers at the bar to be checked in, and you find yourself having to shout over the lager louts, loud music, and the football match on the large projector to be heard by the staff.
There is no real check in area and payment for the room was made in the dining area, with no opportunity to get out of the smoke and away from the din.
After this shambles, the person at check-in told us ...

Lakeside setting makes for special experience
Advantages: Marvellous location Disadvantages: The road surrounding the Lake which at peak times is rather noisy
...country house hotel Armathwaite Hall. Until recently a family home, the Hall is an imposing stone building straight out of an Agatha Christie drama. To step inside is to step back into the past. But, despite appearances, the hotel has been brought into line with modern tastes and all the bedrooms have been refurbished in retro style with the latest en suite facilities, furniture and fittings of the highest standard, and beds of top-class comfort.
