15th Century Tea Room
Advantages: Great tea Disadvantages: You have to pay for water
During our recent holiday to the Lake District my family and I visited Hawkshead, a small village close to Ambleside where we were staying. After a horrible bus journey, a stressful attempt at getting to Hill Top and a slightly boring visit to a gallery of Beatrix Potter's art we were in desperate need of a good cup of tea. Fortunately we didn't have to look far for a tea room. When we walked into Minstrel's I absolutely loved the place. It looked ... ...to keep a lot of the character without modernising the building. Looking around the room where we were seated I could see antique (or what I assume are antique) items, like a lovely dolls house that unfortunately you aren't able to touch (I love dolls houses and would have loved to look inside it). Everything in Minstrel's fits in with the fifteenth century image and this really adds to the atmosphere. The downside to this is that it's not the most ...

beautiful food!
Advantages: see review Disadvantages: see review
...impressions it looked good as the car park was full and the bar area was bustling. We had to wait a while for a table despite it being a Thursday night!
Staff were very polite and accommodating, they soon found us a table and presented us with a menu.
The menu was quite small really, there weren't many options but there was a good variety of meats including; game pie, salmon, chicken supreme etc. The specials board had a good choice though which ... ...good variety instead of offering the usual things there were some different choices like deep fried cheeses and hummus too. The food tasted delicious. It was all so very fresh and tasty. You could tell that it had been prepared from fresh and was all homemade and not frozen. I had a vegetable crumble for main which was absoloutely lovely. It was full of different vegetables and had a very light crumble on top which wasn't too stodgy.
All main meals ...

Rumours Mediterranean Restaurant
Advantages: Great location, atmosphere and quality food Disadvantages: Some things alittle expensive
Rumours Mediterranean Restaurant We discovered this little restaurant whilst visiting the Lakes back in June. It’s situated on the corner of St Martins Place , a stones throw from Lake Windermere . We were attracted to this restaurant for a couple of reasons one we could sit and watch the world go by, because of its location and two the menu looked appealing. Rumours is a Mediterranean style restaurant serving everything you would expect from ... ...and of course a vegetarian option. Although we had a ‘sit down’ meal I also saw people popping in to collect ‘take-outs’. The Service As soon as we entered the restaurant we were greeted by one of the Italian waitresses who immediately found us a nice table in the window and then left us to peruse the menu and wine list. First impressions – good. Both of the waitresses that were on duty when we visited (it’s a small restaurant) were very pleasant ...

good pub in the lakes
Advantages: wide range of beer Disadvantages: have to drive to get there
...the Lake District is the Masons Arms. Situated at Strawberry bank near Kendal. The pub dates back to the 1600’s and has a low oak beamed roof and crackling log fires. The thing that makes the Masons Arms different is the range of beers. There are around 150 bottled beers from around the world and at least 5 beers on draught. The pub even brews its own unique Damson ale from fruits grown along the Lythe valley, which is worth a try. A good range of ...
