Advantages Advantages Gorgeous scenery, variety, good for couples, families and older groups.

Disadvantages Disadvantages As with most of mainland Italy, it can be expensive if you're not careful.

I’m sure most people will have heard of Lake Garda, even if they haven’t been there themselves. Lake Garda is the largest, and arguably the best known, of the Italian Lakes. It lies in northern Italy, spanning the regions of Trentino, Lombardy and Veneto. These regions are similar to British counties, but each has a very distinct and separate identity, with individual cultural, political and gastronomic characteristics, and for some residents a strong sense of regional pride and identity. I have previously visited many parts of Italy, but Lake Garda had never really appealed to me in the past ... more

Advantages Advantages a stunning place to visit

    Disadvantages Disadvantages none.

Lake Garda Lake Garda is the largest Italian lake and it is in Northern Italy. It is between the regions of Lombardy, the Veneto and Trentino Alto-Adige or about half way between Venice and Milan. The lake is long and slim, the southern part of the lake is quite built-up and has rolling hills where as the northern part of the lake is surrounded by mountains. The scenery at Lake Garda is quite simply, stunning. It is one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited in my life so far. It really is breathtaking. The clear blue lake and the towering magnificent mountains surrounding it make it ... more

Advantages Advantages Stunning scenery, glorious climate......... an almost perfect holiday

Disadvantages Disadvantages Rather touristy in places

I've long harboured a desire to visit Italy, and my dream finally came true this summer when we (my husband, 14 year old son and I) decided to spend our summer holiday in Limone on Lake Garda. Lake Garda, Italy's largest lake, is in northern Italy, not far from the city of Verona. It is divided between three Italian regions - Lombardy, Trentino and the Veneto. Due to its stunning natural beauty and warm climate, the area is a major tourist destination, with many towns and villages scattered around its shore. Limone, or Limone sul Garda, situated on Lake Garda's north-western shore, is centred ... more

Advantages Advantages Great scenery, beautiful towns

Disadvantages Disadvantages All a bit too touristy

We booked a Lake Garda holiday at short notice last September, and found ourselves at the four star Hotel Caesius on the outskirts of Bardolino. It was a nice Hotel and we were given a large suite which made it all the better. If I were to visit the area again I would happily stay there again and definately recommend it to others. The only downside of the Hotel was that it was about 30 minutes walk along the lakeside into Bardolino itself. Not a problem doing it once, but several times a day made it sometimes feel a long way. having said that, the Hotel provided a courtesy bus if you wanted it ... more

In Bratislava a few months ago I was amazed by how much it reminded me of Italy, and of Lake Garda in particular. When I was working in northern Italy last summer, my last week was spent “on location” if you will at Riva, a large touristy town at the very north end of the lake. I’d already spent a few days at Peschera and Sirmione at the south end of the lake, but this was something new. Riva is located approximately equidistant from Milan and Venice, some 70 meters above sea level. It is called home by nearly 14 000 Italians, but the steady influx of tourists from April to ... more
