The lake is a huge tourist destination and there are some magnificent hotels surrounding it, some of which are very expensive. However you don’t have to spend a huge amount on a fancy hotel to get the feel of what Lake Garda is about and to enjoy it.

There are many towns around the lake ... more

Advantages: Stunning scenery, glorious climate......... an almost perfect holiday
Disadvantages: Rather touristy in places

...summer holiday in Limone on Lake Garda. Lake Garda, Italy's largest lake, is in northern Italy, not far from the city of Verona. It is divided between three Italian regions - Lombardy, Trentino and the Veneto. Due to its stunning natural beauty and warm climate, the area is a major tourist destination, with many towns and villages scattered around its shore. Limone, or Limone sul Garda, situated on Lake Garda's north-western shore, is centred around ...

The centre and lakefront are popular with tourists (the majority of whom seem to be German or Austrian) who enjoy strolling among the shops, cafes and bars or relaxing on the beach. ~First Impressions~ Upon disembarking from the plane at Verona Airport at about 10 a.m. local time, we were immediately struck by the warm Meditteranean climate - a bit of a contrast to the rainy ...

Great place to explore

Advantages: Great scenery, beautiful towns
Disadvantages: All a bit too touristy

We booked a Lake Garda holiday at short notice last September, and found ourselves at the four star Hotel Caesius on the outskirts of Bardolino. It was a nice Hotel and we were given a large suite which made it all the better. If I were to visit the area again I would happily stay there again and definately recommend it to others. The only downside of the Hotel was that it was about 30 minutes walk along the lakeside into Bardolino itself. Not a ...
...of the nicest around the lake that we visited. Theres not a huge amount there but theres a good selection of cafes, Trattorias and Ristorantes to suit most tastes and budgets. There's also a great selection of Ice Cream shops with an unbeliveable choice of flavours. The main pedestrianised street in Bardolino is well worth seeing (apologies for not recalling its name, but if you visit Bardolino, you'll be sure to see it.). The floor is more like ...

...me of Italy, and of Lake Garda in particular. When I was working in northern Italy last summer, my last week was spent “on location” if you will at Riva, a large touristy town at the very north end of the lake. I’d already spent a few days at Peschera and Sirmione at the south end of the lake, but this was something new. Riva is located approximately equidistant from Milan and Venice, some 70 meters above sea level. It is called ...
...a deep bluey green sparkling lake and a wonderfully colourful waterfront area. Most postcards of Garda Lake in general feature Riva as it’s so gorgeous. Although most people come here for a break to relax after the hustle and bustle of the cities, there are more things to do here than just swim and sunbathe. For example there’s a Reptile Land which was a great hit with the kids I was looking after. Full of pythons, geckos, tarantulas ...

A 'European' holiday resort

Advantages: Fantastic scenery
Disadvantages: Can be expensive

...persuasion. Travel around the lake can be tiresome. There are plenty of busses but I suggest that you rent a car. Make sure you take note of the signs though as every Wednesday there is a market and if your car is parked in the market area between six in the morning and eleven at night it will get towed and you could be facing a fine of nearly 100 euros. If you think of traveling further a field to Verona or Venice make sure you take the Motorway ...

A typically Italian affair usually with Pasta, Pizza (although not actually Italian), and seafood although I never had a bad meal whilst I was there. Detailed Overview for holidayers

Advantages: Excellent food/drink, stunning views, diverse range of things to do and see
Disadvantages: Drivers can sometimes become erratic/aggressive, some places expensive.

I found Lake Garda to be an extremely worthwhile trip. There are some particularly stunning views that would be appreciated by nature lovers, but which need some searching for. Areas in and around the actual lake itself (which is huge!) and around the castle further inland are lovely. Mostly pebble beaches surrounding the lake, with a few sand beaches dotted around the edges. I stayed in a resort on the edge of Lake Garda which was very reasonable. ...
...ryanair have flights for near lake garda as well as the bigger flight companies. I didnt use any public transport - I went on holiday with my family and travelled by rented car. There were not any facilities such as childrens clubs on the resort I stayed at, but this probably varies with resort. Most resorts in Lake Garda seem fairly reasonable, I stayed in a ground floor apartment, consisting of 3 rooms - one bedroom with double bed, a bathroom ...

Molto Magnifico Malcesine

Advantages: Very beautiful, plenty to do, not expensive
Disadvantages: None

In my extensive travels abroad I?ve visited some wonderful places, but I rarely go back. The unknown always beckons onward. One exception to this is Malcesine. It?s a lovely little town on the east bank of Lake Garda (that?s the lake shaped like a witch riding on a pig), and has a gentle, seductive charm all its own. From the lake it?s a beautiful sight, with its picturesque little harbour, to the left of which high up is a mediaeval castle, and behind the town the majestic bulk of Monte Baldo. It?s all very compact. You can walk to the castle in a few minutes, and from there to the cable car which takes you to the summit of Baldo. Baldo is the place to go if you like nature. There are some good walks, with places to stop for refreshments, and some rare wild plants found in few other areas of Europe. On a clear day, the views are ...

A place in the sun - Torri de Benaco, Lake Garda

Advantages: tranquil and picturesque.
Disadvantages: Erratic bus service

Torri de Beneco We booked this as the second resort in a dual centre holiday from Inghams Lakes and Mountains. Wading through the brochures there are many resorts around Lake Garda and very little information to help one choose between them so we were a little unsure what to expect when we arrived in Torri de Benaco on a brilliant hot sunny afternoon in July 2006. We were immediately impressed as we wandered around the cobbled streets and strolled on the promenade of this pretty harbour town. After the hustle and bustle of Venice the tranquillity was welcome, I was on holiday, it was time to unwind. Situation Torri de Benaco is situated half way along the Eastern shores of Lake Garda. Like all the resorts around Garda it is reached by the main road that runs North / South along the lake. From the road there is little to see ...

they have that stetting and feel about them. We also arranged a trip by ourselves to a waterpark, we got the boat over to Malcesine and got a bus to the water park. we enjoyed this trip as it was different to site seeing all the time. but the only thing that put us off was the toilets which was a hole in the ground, you find this alot in Italy to get used to using the disabled toilets as they are normal. we where limited to tha amount of time we had at the water park as the boat stops at a certain time, so we had to be back in Malcesine. All the Theme parks and water park are nearer to malcesine so we decided to stay there next time we go. Our last trip was the lake tour. it took us to all the different parts of the lake and different towns but out of all the towns we visited i prefer Limone or Malcesine they aren't big towns but ...
