A Snowy Paradise

Advantages: Great Skiing, amazing scenery and amazing snow
Disadvantages: Not such a great resort for Apres Ski

...from Lastminute.com we opted for Lake Louise in the Canadian Rockies. The opinion is that the Canada is one of, if not the best place in the world to go skiing and that coupled with the price and a spot of internet research prompted us to head for the small hamlet of Lake Louise, hidden deep within the Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada.

...at Calgary. The journey to Lake Louise alone would have made the trip, travelling out of Calgary past the Olympic site, across the Canadian Plains before hitting the foothills and the majestic mountains of the Canadian Rockies. The scenery and drive into Lake Louise is absolutely stunning and with a constant snow covering in the winter, it makes it look even more stunning.

Unlike the European resorts, Lake Louise isn't a ski in and ... more

Skiing heaven.

Advantages: Great holiday
Disadvantages: none

...areas I have ever visited Lake Louise, in the Canadian Rockies. Lake Louise is a 2 hour drive from Calgary (direct, but very long flights available from Heathrow) the countryside on the journey goes from mildly interesting, seeing the Calgary ski jump where Eddie the Eagle made his winter Olympic name, to the beautiful Canadian countryside with a small river flowing through a wilderness of snow. To the completely spectacular as you driver further ...
...of which are linked to Lake Louise by free shuttle buses and a ‘tri-area’ lift pass is available to cover all three. Then finally a further short bus ride away, you reach Lake Louise itself. The village of Lake Louise is very small, with hardly any buildings at all, but by far the most imposing of them all is the Chateau Lake Louise, which is a huge hotel, built on the edge of the Lake. Accommodation ************* Accommodation in the village ranges ...

Lake Louise - A beginners perspective

Advantages: so many
Disadvantages: none

Skiing at Lake Louise was such an amazing experience for me. I went for a week at the very end of the season this year and it was the best snow I have ever seen! This was only my second time skiing (the first was France at christmas) and has helped boost my confidence so much. The runs are very wide and there are some great long runs for beginners. From every lift there is a green run which meant i could spend a lot more time with the rest of my ...
...forest. My experience at Lake Louise has completely built up my confidence, and I just can't wait to get out on the pistes again. It was a fantastic week and I would love to go back there as soon as I can afford to. Obviously it is a bit more costly than Europe but in my humble opinion was completely worth it! The food on the slopes was reasonably priced, better than expected and a good choice of sandwhiches, salads and hot foods. One place I ...

Best family resort I've been to!

Advantages: Great Hospitality
Disadvantages: transport to pistes required

I am a keen skiier and had been to Europe many times before we decided to try Canada. You get all the the advantages of skiing in Canada, great snow all season, friendly instructors, free guides (ski pals). The skiing area is large, and there are plenty of pistes to keep you occupied for over a week, not as many Blacks or Double-Blacks as nearby Sunshine Village, but plenty of below tree-line runs for all except the Expert skiiers. The lifts are ...
...by friendly staff, there are many places for lunch time breaks, whether you want to grab a quick burger, or have a full meal and a few drinks. The resort itself offers many Apres-Ski activities from Hot-Spring Baths, to Ice-Skating, and Dog Sledding. There is a noticable lack of Bars, and i didn't see any clubs so definately a good resort for Families. Free buses run from all hotels to transport people to the pistes every morning and back every ...

Lake Louise Inn

Advantages: Beautiful Location, Amazing skiing!
Disadvantages: Mayhem, Absolute mayhem

); alarm clocks in the bedrooms; coffee maker, etc. The Lake Louise Inn boasts a heated (I would dispute that) swimming pool and hot tub. There is supposedly a steam room although this was out of order at the time of our visit and reception staff informed up would be for the next four or so months! One thing that the Inn does get right is food, there's a restaurant, an Italian and a bar serving food- You can even get pizza from the Italian delivered to your room. The service in the whole of the Lake Louise area was impeccable, and you can expect no less than that at the Inn. Our stay in the Lake Louise Inn although not perfect was incredibly enjoyable, Lake Louise is a beautiful area, and the skiing is unsurpassed. The Inn is only a few (free) bus minutes away from the ski resort. In all honesty I would definitely visit Lake Louise ...

Hotel in beautiful Banff

Advantages: Reasonable price, nice rooms
Disadvantages: Poor breakfast

everywhere seems to be at the moment. The hotel is very well located for getting the ski bus to any of the 3 ski resorts (Lake Louise, Sunshine and Norquay) which goes from the Banff Park Lodge just around the corner. Make sure you check the times carefully as they aren?t that regular. RECOMMENDED? Overall I would recommend this hotel. It was good value (for Banff) and was convenient for us. The room was really nice and had everything we needed. The bed was comfortable and apart from my slight issue with the pillows we slept really well. The staff were mainly friendly and very helpful (excepting the ?delightful? breakfast room lady!). The breakfast was disappointing but didn?t stop us enjoying our stay so wasn?t the biggest problem. The hotel is also in the perfect location, right in the middle of Banff so that all the shopping ...

Banff-iful!

Advantages: Great snow, various activities
Disadvantages: not enought time to do it all!

ski resort. There are 3 skiing regions which are located near to the town which you are able to get shuttle buses to ? Sunshine Village, Mount Norquay and the fantastic Lake Louise. ~Sunshine Village~ Sunshine is a 30 minute bus journey from Banff and offers 3,300 acres on terrain over 3 mountains. Due to the size of the village you will find that the majority of the slopes are not very crowded at all and a pleasure to ski on especially as they have an average snowfall of 914cm?s! Sunshine also offers Banff?s only ski in and out hotel which offers extras such as saunas, massages and hot tubs ? perfect after a hard days skiing! The villages offers 7 quad chairs, 1 Triple chair, 1 double chair, 2 magic carpets and a high speed gondola which takes you from the bottom on the mountain into the centre of the ski resort. There are over 107 ...
