...Lake Maggiore is in the North of Italy, and it is a popular destination with Germans, but also locals. You can swim and bathe is some of the beaches on the lake, but not al of them, you should check out on the local newspapers. The west shore, in Piemonte, is richer and with better hotels than the other side of the lake. I like very much the mountains just over the lake, especially in the East side, in Lombardia. In Luino, on the east side, there is a local bar with always very sexy waitresses, it is not far from the small port, near a large supermarket, I do not remember the name of it, but remember some of the employees.... ...This pretty hotel is away from the road and just so tranquil. Beautifully furbished, it is relaxing and comfortable. The food is WONDERFUL and the extensive wine list has kept a careful eye on affordability, whilst offering almost 100 choices.The host is helpful, with a dry sense of humour and the staff are pleasant and cheerful. The room we were given was recently redone and very tasteful, with great views. Every luxury was provided and each request dealt with promptly. If you are looking for somewhere to really get away to, this is it - and how rare to find. We will visit three times this year - and may also go for Christmas. I went on recommendation from a colleague and have never been more pleased with the result.... Read review

...,000,000 cafes. To be honest, the best one is at Grange, at the very top of Borrowdale - the Hot Chocolate and evening meals are fantastic. Also, Mayson's in Keswick has pretty spectacular food. And of course, I have already mentioned Mire House. That's not to say there aren't many good ones around - all of them do a mean HC. Where To Stay The Lake District has a wide range of accommodation for anyone. I'll start at the top and work down. The Swiss Lodore Hotel in Borrowdale is probably as near the top of the spectrum as you will get. Its a 4 star hotel, overlooking Derwentwater, with a swimming pool, squash courts, tennis, sauna and steam room. It also has a first class restaurant.
