Mari-time you went to Lancaster Maritime Museum

Advantages: Inexpensive and interesting
Disadvantages: None

...and it is dominated by Lancaster Castle, the scene of the famous Pendle Witch Trial an now a prison.


It is below this castle, on St Georges Quay that the Lancaster Maritime Museum stands.
The museum is in the former Custom House and warehouse buildings, it is a lovely Georgian building with a perfect riverside setting overlooking the River Lune. Next to the Museum are buildings which belonged to the Quaker slave trader ...

Lancaster Maritime Museum covers the maritime trade of Lancaster, the history of the port, the Lancaster Canal and the fishing industry of the Lune Estuary and Morecambe Bay. It was built when Lancaster was growing into a rich city which exported furniture and other goods to the colonies as well as importing cotton, rum, sugar, mahogany and slaves. Great holiday with the family.

Advantages: Fun, plenty to do, great resort.
Disadvantages: It rained :-(

Maritime Museum - Lancaster Maritime museum was opened in 1985. It is in the former Custom House and covers the maritime trade of Lancaster, the history of the port, the Lancaster Canal and the fishing industry of Morecambe Bay. It does this with displays using sound, smells, reconstructions and audiovisuals. Judges Lodgings Museum - Judges Lodgings is in the centre of Lancaster near Lancaster Castle and Lancaster Priory. Advantages: A LOVELY FRIENDLY CITY
Disadvantages: CAR PARKING

Town Hall in Market Square, now the City Museum, and the old Custom House of 1764, which now serves as the Maritime Museum. Cabinet-making, as well brought prosperity to the city with the famous Lancaster firm of Gillow's, they exported their products all over the world. Shipbuilding and fishing - of which now there is neither in the city - were also prominant trades. During this short period of prosperity, which lasted only about 100 years in total, Lancaster was one of the richest towns in England. "A few imporatant events in the 19th and 20th century" Amenities in Lancaster improved during the 19th century. Gas street lighting was introduced in 1825.
