Lands End is not exactly what you expect- the land peels away down cliffs into the wide open sea. But it is much more than just a place where land meets the sea. It is a place of great adventure, where many start or finish their cross counrty adventures.
Apart from this, it is a place of great remoteness, far out on the western point of the Penwith peninsula. You may expect there to be nothing here, just a sign and a car park perhaps, but there is much more. There are museums dedicated to the history of the area, to sailors who sailed the seas near here, and to people who set out on end-to-end adventures. Various exhibitions come and go throughout the year, appropriate for all age groups, from children up to the grandparents. A good restaurant is on site and snack bars are present as well.
There is great oppurtunity for cliff walking near Lands End. Head north along the coast path, and you will find Sennen Cove, a small village with a truly spectacular 2 mile long beach. There are a few shipwrecks to spot along the way, at the bottom of the cliffs! It really is worth it, there is no other sight quite like it.
To get to Lands End, from anywhere, just follow the M5 to Exeter, then the A30, until the road ends! There are local buses from Penzance numbered 1/1A, or the 300 is a summer-only open top bus. This bus also comes from St Ives.
