Mother nature at her best

Advantages: Unique and breathtaking views, fantastic demonstrations
Disadvantages: None worth mentioning

Timanfaya National Park is set on the most easterly Canary Island, Lanzarote. It can be found to the west of the island, nearby the town of Yaiza. Lanzarote originally rose from the sea in the form of a mass of volcanoes so it's understandable that to this day the island is still home to a lot of volcanoes - more than 300 infact. Some of these volcanoes have blown and some of them are still very much alive. Timanfaya National Park gives an up close ...
...was originally sparked by the Timanfaya experience). However I will be basing this review on the last time I visited in May 2009. The island is small (only 37 miles long and 12 miles wide) so it is easy to find Timanfaya National Park. It is also signposted up well once you get within a few miles away. We visited by car as I like to do things in my own time and have my own space but if you don't fancy driving there you can always take an excersion. ...

Shhh...it's a secret!

Advantages: beautiful caves, historical.
Disadvantages: not suitable for disabled/push chairs/ people with bad backs!

...caves are known locally as Cueva de los Verdes. The original inhabitants of the island were known as the Guanches and they would shelter in the caves from the pirates and slave hunters that threatened the island. The tunnels are about 8km long but 2km of this is under the water. It is the longest volcanic tunnel in the world. The caves are named after the 'Green' family not because they are green in colour (as many people would seem to believe). ...
...from the pirates was the 'Verdes' family. The caves do appear green however this is due to the lighting - well you can have dark caves I am sure the compensation lawyers would have a great time. The caves were transformed by adding professional lighting by Jesus Soto and were opened to the public in 1964. The only way to navigate these caves today is with a tour led by a professional guide. *~*~*THE TOUR*~*~* Only a 2km section of the caves is ...

This little tourist went to market...

Advantages: cheap bargains, fun day out, nice little village
Disadvantages: can get busy

...to know the history of Teguise and I certainly didn't want to stand around taking pictures of Canarian ladies in pretty frocks. A couple of months ago however I returned from a trip to Lanzarote with my fiance and my take on tings was completely different. I had a great time exploring the stalls selling souvenirs of many cultures, I enjoyed tasting Tapas and I certainly enjoyed bartering myself. TEGUISE ------------- Teguise used to be the capital ...
...to the local market. Teguise is better known as 'La Villa' to the locals. The Canarians claim that Teguise is the oldest Spanish settlement in the whole of the Canaries. It certainly has an awe of history and I felt a certain urgency to find out more about the village. Castillo Santa Barbara stands tall and proud above the market shoppers. On our ascent to this castle we realised how high it was. The picture opportunity was amazing with a vantage ...

Not recommended

Advantages: Good transport links
Disadvantages: Everything else - price, rides, water not heated

What can I say except I really would not bother. This is the only water park on Lanzarote and it shows it has nothing to compete with. There are bus services offered from Puerto Del Carmen directy there and Im sure there must be a bus from Costa Teguise as it is just on the outskirts of the resort but thats about the best I can say for the place. The rides are no where near the standard of any other water park I have been to in the world which would ...

Wild west in the Canary Islands!?

Advantages: Good few hours out, good selection of animals, recommend if you have children
Disadvantages: Lack of shade, too expensive, good effort with bird shows but weren't up to scratch, white tigers?

Rancho Texas is a themed park which can be located on the most easterly Canary Island, Lanzarote. You'll probably notice Rancho Texas advertised around the island - in leaflets and even on the luggage trollies at the airport! It is situated on the outskirts of Puerto Del Carmen and can be reached easily by car or bus. As the name suggests the park is based around the state of Texas and has a wild west theme. This paragraph is taken from the Rancho ...
...Davy Crockett and Jim Bowie. Rancho Texas Park, Lanzarote, captures this time with all the adventure and excitement of the old wild west". A fact I didn't know prior to visiting the park and which some also gave some significance to the park. If I didn't have my daughter with me then I probably wouldn't have visited Rancho Texas but I knew she would enjoy it so decided to spend half a day there (it's not a whole day thing). The park has no rides ...
