Scenic lunar landscape surrounds everything here coupled with an abudance of greenery and wild flowers it is an inviting place just waiting to be explored.
The island has many beautiful beaches and crystal clear water which is excellent for diving, watersport and family swimmming.Contrary to popular belief that the beaches are all black sand, there are amany golden soft sanded beaches that really are both attractive and clean.
There are some interesting sites to see, in particular the Volcanoes -(I believe the film 3000 years BC was actually filmed there and I can understand why) It really is like stepping back in time. You can actually tour the volcanic route by special coach, where the views are panoramic and an excellent place to take photographs. You can share the delights of
fresh food cooked on the naked flame from the volcano and if you feel particularly adventurous a camel ride might appeal but I admit to avoiding what I considered too much of a bumpy ride!
There are some beautiful stalegnite caves at the north of the island where pools of white blind crabs live and you may stay to evenings of classic music and food.
The valley of the thousand palms is a pleasure to see and drive through, visually stunning a definite 'must see', followed by traditonal food in a local bar in the piaza, we tried the local tapas with the locals.
There is an excellent sunday market in Teguise where they have some good bargains ranging from leather, copy designer watches, clothes , cotton & linen - but be prepared to barter, definitely do not pay the first price quoted.I was very pleased with the leather goods and clothes that I purchased there. You can drive there, but there are taxis driving there regularly, and a taxi rank for return journey.
A car is a good idea particularly if this is your first visit and a jeep is necessary if you wish to explore off the beaten track and enjoy some deserted beaches, but the taxis here are in abundence and cheap, and there are regular bus services between towns, again the fares are inexpensive.
Eating out is cheap but as always avoid the tourist haunts (Puerto del Carmen where nearly ever bar is topless/strippers etc!!) and find some good bars and cafes where the locals eat - we enjoyed delicious prawns with garlic and fresh pizza at £5 per head.
The supermarkets here offer a good range of high quality food at cheap prices and the alcohol is ridiculously cheap - the vodka was £3 a litre!!If you are going to staying on a room only basis eating out will not break the bank!
However, the hotel fare where we have stayed was excellent I was very impressed with the selections and high standard of choice and product - smoked salmon, king prawns fresh advocados, daily carveries etc made eating an gastronomic delight.
We have stayed at Playa Blanca and Puerto del Carmen (Some years ago when it was much quieter) in the summer and Costa Teguise christmas '99 each resort is quite different, each with its own attractions. We visited Puerto Del Carmen 15 years ago now and it has changed a lot it is very comercialised now, with one beach road full of bars, cafes and clubs right on the beach, with apartments at the back. This is the busiest location on the island and the beach is huge.(and crowded in the summer months)
Playa Blanca is very popular withthe scandinavians with fewer british people we found it idyllic - it is a beautiful little area with the seafront lined with gas-lamps and well laid lawns and pretty waterfalls etc make a very attractive area.It has its own fishing port area where local restaurants sit right next to the water and the fish dishes are quite something washed down with the local sangria...
Christmass '99 we stayed at Costa Teguise which is a fairly quiet resort but there are a good choice of hotels, bars, restaurants and shops. There are a number of pretty beaches and bays all nicely sheltered, and close to restaurants, bars, shops and taxis etc.
Price wise it is not expensive, if you intend to go I advise booking via the interent or teletext where real money-saving bargains can be found.(We paid £650 for four of us to go half-board over christmas at a 3* hotel one week) This island in my mind is a good holiday choice whether for families or singles there is always lots to do, a brilliant climate and very friendly, welcoming locals I will be definitely be going again - this year hopefully.

We propose some unforgettable holidays in "El Capistrano Villages", in Nerja, the privileged balcony of the Costa del Sol. "El Capistrano Villages" is, possibly, the most beautiful and exclusive Urbanisation on the Costa del Sol.
Advantages: Superb Beaches, beautiful scenery, Lots to do for all ages, Duty Free Disadvantages: Some areas there are a lot of unfinished construction of homes/hotels and easy to get lost.
