If your looking for sun, sea, sand and sangrias for your hols this year but your on a 'credit crunch' style budget then Lanzarote may be the one for you! I have visited Lanzarote twice, once as a child and once in October last year and have fallen in love with the place. We stayed in Playa De Los Pocilos which is a small quiet town just outside the main capital of Puerto Del Carmen which is the place to visit if you are after a more lively holiday. Towns such as Costa Tequise, Playa Blanca and Playa De Los Pocillos are for the more quieter folk.
Lanzarote is the fourth largest canary island situated approximately 125km off the coast of Africa so you're guaranteed the sun at least! The great thing about this island is that the whole island is only 60km north to south and 25km east to west so you can pretty much cover the whole island in your holiday. The journey took 4 hours 10 minutes (from Birmingham airport) by plane and because it is a relatively small island the transfer times from Areciffe airport to whichever resort on the island you are visiting will be no more than an hour. For a really short transfer time the airport is located near the resort of Playa De Los Pocillos.
The island is famed for its volcanos and trips are available to go up into the mountains to see the effects the volcanos at Timanfaya National Park have had over the years. A really exciting trip though not cheap (around £10.00 per person) and can be accessed by car if you require. Once you are up the mountains, special coach trips are available F.O.C which take you through all the volcanos with a guide to talk you through all the facts. These tours last around 30 minutes.
You cant visit Lanzarote and not possibly go on a camel ride, its a must!! Spitting is a slight problem from the camels but its all very safe and well organised. The camels getting up and back down again make for an interesting ride! The rides are located near Timanfaya National Park and are pretty good value for money. Each camel takes two people - both of which have to be around the same weight as you sit on chairs either side of the camel - so you have to balance each other out! This is an experience I would recommend for all.
The beaches contain golden sand unlike those of the other Canaries and you are pretty much guaranteed sunshine all year round. Most of the locals speak English so the language barrier is not a problem and the local currency is Euros as like the rest of Europe.
Taxis are cheap and buses regular. Costa Teguise beach is recommended as it is a lovely 'tourist' town with cheap english meals and a gorgeous beach with a nice row of shops. Playa Blanca too is worth a look especially if you like water sports as you can access Jet Skis and Banana Boats as well as other water sports in this area.
Puerto Del Carmen is where all the nightlife is and is pretty much in the centre of Lanzarote so can be accessed easily from whichever resort you are staying in. There is row after row of bars and restaurants to keep you going through the night, but it is by no means a rowdy town and I still felt comfortable walking through it with my family in the early hours of the evening, without feeling intimidated by drinkers. It remains quite peaceful and calm for a 'drinkers' town with no out-landish behaviour being seen.
Summary: Lanzarote is a must for all. It offers something for everyone no matter what your age or circumstances. It is a pretty flat island so great for the disabled or less abled. Plenty for the kids and great bars for the young. Best holiday you could have!

We propose some unforgettable holidays in "El Capistrano Villages", in Nerja, the privileged balcony of the Costa del Sol. "El Capistrano Villages" is, possibly, the most beautiful and exclusive Urbanisation on the Costa del Sol.
Advantages: Good legroom, Surprisingly good inflight meals, wide selection of entertainment, friendly crew Disadvantages: As flying in Premium I went into Economy and it looked cramped, although I can not properly say!!!
