Fit for a king! Caesars Palace - Las Vegas
Advantages: Beautiful place with lots to do under one BIG roof! Disadvantages: Pricey
We stayed in Caesars Palace on our 7 night trip to Vegas in 2007. I have never been in a hotel quite like it and I don't think I ever will! Before going to Vegas I was told that in all hotels there was a shopping centre and restaurants etc but I expected nothing like what we had! The shopping centre within Caesars may sound a bit strange or a bit tacky but it really isn't. The shops and restaurants are all surrounded by the roman themed decor on ... ...also a Planet Hollywood within Caesars Palace and we ate there on two occasions. Very nice food and staff! The casino's are also nice to look around as it is set in the beautiful arcitechture that is Caesars Palace. With the ceilings painted a wonderful blue sky colour with clouds all over them you find yourself walking through staring at the ceiling! The rooms are lovely, we had a double room which had 2 double beds in so both me and my sister had ...

Luxury Central on the Strip - The Mirage, Las Vegas
Advantages: Great value for money Disadvantages: None. Loved it!
...for two full weeks in the sun. As our flight was a long one (8 hours, 4 hour stop off in Atlanta and then another 4 hours back on a plane), however it flew by as we were so excited. We caught a taxi and he took us the scenic route until we arrived at The Mirage. The heat certainly hits you as soon as you're outside - and this was 11pm! On arrival the staff could not have been more helpful. A nice young man offered to help with our bags and pointed ... ...a queue, probably due to the time we got there, as on other days the lobby area was full. There is a gorgeous 15foot aquarium that runs the length of the lobby, I could've spent a whole day watching that alone! Checking in was pretty pain free - although we did get told we had to have a smoking room (we booked non smoking) as that was all they had (perhaps this is because we hadn't tried the old $20 bill trick?!) but as we were still buzzing about ...

The Fading Flamingo
Advantages: Fantastic location on the Strip, excellent pool and courtyard area Disadvantages: Incredibly slow check-in, tired furniture, mediocre restaurants
I have oft lamented the fact Las Vegas doesn’t really appreciate it’s past. The city is wholly unsentimental about it’s history and about preserving much of anything at all. The Flamingo Hotel (which ceased being the Flamingo Hilton in 1999) is part of the Harrah’s group of hotels, which includes Paris and Caesar’s Palace, and is easily the hotel with the most colourful history on Harrah’s profile, and on the Strip itself, despite the fact it has ... ...first opened its doors back in 1946 was the brainchild of famed mobster Bugsy Siegel, and was the first luxury hotel to open on the Strip in Las Vegas. Siegel had been impressed with the lax laws on gambling in the city but less so with the casinos on Fremont Street at the time, which were, to say the least, rough and ready, and mostly adopted a western saloon theme. At the time the Strip had few hotels and was mostly open ground - the heart of Las ...

A Mirage in the Vegas Desert
Advantages: location, superb quality, loads of attractions Disadvantages: not enough time to see everything
...a central location.
The Mirage is located in between Treasure Island and Caesars Palace, slap bang in the middle of the strip. It is also right across the road from the Venetian and the Palazzo. It has 3044 rooms and was built in 1989 by developer Steve Wynn whose companies have built some of Vegas' most famous real estate including the newer Wynn and Encore hotels. The Mirage has a French Polynesian theme throughout and numerous attractions both ... ...the Mirage is the exploding Volcano, where a fantastic fire display erupts into the Vegas sky every night on the hour. This attraction is free and you can watch the crowds gathering on the Strip about 15 minutes before each show which lasts about 5 minutes. It is really impressive and even if you weren't staying at the hotel I would really recommend it as a "must see" when in Vegas.
As we walked in the front door of the hotel we were greeted with ...

Big,Brash, Bold bit getting tired.
Advantages: Iconic place to stay. Disadvantages: Decor was tired and a bit shabby
We stayed at the Luxor twice recently. Our first impression after a transatlantic flight was WOW!!! It was huge! I have never seen a hotel on this scale before. It took us over an hour to check in, we were queing for aboslutely ages, and I have no idea why as we were the only ones from our flight staying there! It felt a bit like queing for a ride at Disney world! Our room was on the 21st floor and again it was huge, we were blown away but after ... ...either. The following morning we went to look at the pool and spa and casino. Again the sheer size of everything is amazing and we were gobsmacked. I think we walked about with our mouths open for ages! I sampled the spa and it was lovely, nothing special but for 60 dollars you cant complain. The pool areas were absolutely packed because they had roped of one of the pools for work. We had breakfast in the hotel which was very pricey but good. We ...
