I visited Las Vegas in September 2004. It really is the most amazing place I have ever seen. I was never interested in going to America, and then my then partner talked me into going....boy am I glad he did. I have been to Florida since, but Vegas will always be top of my list of holidays.
We booked our holiday via the teletext on tv. We got a very good cheap deal for fly/drive and our hotel. It was booked on the Friday and we went on the Tuesday! When we arrived at the airport, there was a problem with the car.....hadnt been booked! We rang our rep who came straight away and we had to pay again! but he assured us we would get a credit back on the card the very next day. Yes, the next day, it was put back on our card, plus we were given a free ypgrade to a better car!..I was really tired by this time, we had spent 2 hours at the airport sorting out our car.
We decided to stay well away from the famous strip.....we stayed at a hotel complex called Primm Valley. It was about half an hour away, but after
a very busy day on the strip, it was nice to get away to the peace and quiet of this lovely hotel.
Primm Valley Hotel, was totally enormous! It was full of machines, tables, all sorts of gambling games. It took your breathe away when you walked into it. The hotel had its own shopping mall, the size of your nomal shopping centre back home! There were several restaurants, bars, designer shops, levi jeans were so cheap, I bought 5 pairs!!!! There was a beautiful pool area, but the pool was really cold. The heat was one of the down sides to vegas. It was well in the 90's to 100 degree's, but it was a strange heat, with hardly any breeze. There were 3 big hotels in the complex, Whiskey Pete,s was really close by and we used to go over there and use their pool, as it wasnt as cold as Primm. Primm hotel was the nicest in that complex by far and the biggest. Whisky pete's had a massive rollercoaster going all around the complex!
We spent our days the same most days, but we never got bored. We would get up around 9, have breakfast at the buffet bars, as much as you can eat, of whatever you want for about £4.00. Then we would go to the pool and sunbathe and read until about 1pm. You couldnt do much else because of the heat, at least at the pool you could jump in and cool off if you got too hot. We would then drive onto the strip, sometimes calling at one of the malls on the way. These are worth looking at, as you can get alot of bargins. When we got to the strip on that 1st day, it totally amazed me. I had never seen anything like it in all my life. The size of the hotels, each different in its own right. The strip is about 4 miles long and we spent many happy hours and days walking along, going into each hotel as we went along. It took us the full 6 days to cover all of them! Each hotel had something amazing about it....My fav was the Bellagio with the water fountain dancing to the music....this happens a couple of time a night and although there are big crowds, I strongly reccommend it.
Each hotel has its own casino, with loads of slot machines, blackjack,roulette tables and many more. When you are having a gamble, you get free drinks from one of the waitresses, you just have to give her a tip instead, but you may have to wait, as there are too few waitresses to serve so many people.
In each hotel there is a wide variety of food courts, from sit down waitress service to the all you can eat buffet......you must try one of these while you are there, they are very cheap and very good value. There is loads of different foods to try and as there are hundreds of food places, they all compete, which keeps the cost down.
There is loads of entertainment along the strip. Celine Dion is on at Caesars Palace, and Elton John was due to show there a few weeks later. The price is about £100 to go to see her, which unfortunatley, I didnt do. But people have told me that her show is amazing and well worth going.
The Venetian is another one of my fav hotels. I could well imagine what Italy is like being inside this hotel. It is so beautiful, with the gondola's taking couples talong the canal that goes through the inside of the hotel. The ceiling is painted like the sky and goes from daylight to night time with the stars shining...it is truely beautiful. The shopping there is fantastic too. Many designer shops.
The Stratosphere is another hotel you should try. We had a lovely meal at the top in a revolving restaurant, the veiws from here are like nothing you have seen before. Also there are 3 rides at the top. My partner went on all of them, he was very white when he came back to me!!! But he did say that they are a must if you can handle the heights.
There is alot of outside entertainment.....the Treasure Island has a show which is really good. The fireworks and sounds and the size of the boat is totally brillient. This show is on 3 times a night so make sure you get a good veiw.
I couldnt find any faults in Vegas, apart from the heat, which as I have said, you arrange your day around it.
There shopping is fantastic, there is a Premium Outlet centre just off the strip. The prices are totally fantastic, costing so much less than what you ususally pay....loads of barging so dont take too many clothes with you, you wont have any room for all your bargins if you do! You can shop till you drop in all the hotels that offer different types of shops. Ceasars Palace has lots of expensive designer shops, D&D, Gucci, Prada etc.
To sum up my holiday, I had a fantastic time and I cant wait to go again. Next time for longer. I dont think I would take the kids, it is totally geared for adults, but saying that I didnt really see many children so others must feel the same way as I did....you can have a better time walking along the strip without the kids, Im sure they would be very bored. One of the things I wish I had done is the helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon, again this was quite pricey, but I will do it next time I go. Im sure the veiws at night over the strip would be well worth seeing too.

Advantages: Totally out of this world experience, so much to see and do, great hotels and casinos Disadvantages: Sleazy in places, a few days isn't long enough to see it all
