Advantages: great location, friendly & knowledgable Disadvantages: car parking & breakfast!!
I had to attend a conference inBrighton recently, so hubby and I decided to treat ourselves and stay a few extra days, do some shopping and generally 'chill' out from work.
We choose the Thistle due to cost and availability really - many of the hotels on the travel website we use were fully booked or looked in need of paint and repair. This was advertised as being close to The Lanes and numerous restaurants as well as being sea front based.
LOCATION
The Thistle is a glass fronted, modern looking hotel, situated approx 200 yards from Brighton Pier, directly on the seafront.
I say modern looking, because most of the other hotels nearby were the old Victorian style, so the Thistle stood out somewhat!!!
Directly behind this hotel is The Lanes and various restaurants - so it really is close to all amenities as advertised ...
Advantages: friendly service, great location Disadvantages: wee bit overpriced for level of facilities
I visited Brighton for the first time recently to celebrate Duskman's 30th birthday and I can report I had a fabulous time. Many factors contributed to it being brilliant but a large part of the experience can be attributed to our stay at The Lanes Hotel , a lovely little family run hotel located not in the historic Lanes area of the town as the name implies but on Marine Parade facing the seafront at Brighton.

However we did not realise that most decent hotels only took two night bookings at the weekend in spring and summer. It was time for a rethink and to ...
Advantages: Too many...London by the sea...cosmopolitan, diverse, shopping! Food! Disadvantages: Can be dirty - very busy in summer with exchange students under your feet.
Having lived inBrighton for several years I can honestly say I would rather walk around the lanes on a day off work than anywhere else in the world - its just fabulous :D The small winding allys are a real curiosity shop extravaganza - jewellery shops, gifts, clothing, shoes, restaurants, dog parlours, hand made chocolates, bespoke perfumes - you name it - its amazing! Every time I have moved away and returned to Brighton something has changed and its always been a really exciting time walking around seeing whats 'new'. You will never be lost for something to purchase either....the prices are very competative if your shopping for a special gift like an engagement ring....the choice is next to none outside London - and you can haggle! .The pubs arevery good as well for just a quick drink or if time allows a nice pub meal - each bar ...
