Languishing in the lovely Lanes

Advantages: friendly service, great location
Disadvantages: wee bit overpriced for level of facilities

I visited Brighton for the first time recently to celebrate Duskman's 30th birthday and I can report I had a fabulous time. Many factors contributed to it being brilliant but a large part of the experience can be attributed to our stay at The Lanes Hotel , a lovely little family run hotel located not in the historic Lanes area of the town as the name implies but on Marine Parade facing the seafront at Brighton. I must confess the Lanes Hotel was not our first nor second choice for accommodation whilst in Brighton. We initially had planned to spend only one night in Brighton and stay in a trendy boutique hotel or somewhere that had luxurious facilities such as a pool and sauna. . However we did not realise that most decent hotels only took two night bookings at the weekend in spring and summer. It was time for a rethink and to ...

Review of The Lanes Hotel, Brighton

Brighton Rocks in The Lanes

Advantages: great location, friendly & knowledgable
Disadvantages: car parking & breakfast!!

I had to attend a conference in Brighton recently, so hubby and I decided to treat ourselves and stay a few extra days, do some shopping and generally 'chill' out from work. We choose the Thistle due to cost and availability really - many of the hotels on the travel website we use were fully booked or looked in need of paint and repair. This was advertised as being close to The Lanes and numerous restaurants as well as being sea front based. LOCATION The Thistle is a glass fronted, modern looking hotel, situated approx 200 yards from Brighton Pier, directly on the seafront. I say modern looking, because most of the other hotels nearby were the old Victorian style, so the Thistle stood out somewhat!!! Directly behind this hotel is The Lanes and various restaurants - so it really is close to all amenities as advertised ...

Review of Thistle Hotel, Brighton

Brighton Lanes

Advantages: Great if your looking for something different
Disadvantages: None

We decided to fit Brighton into our plans of spending a week travelling from Scotland down the east coast and back up the west of England, so Brighton seemed like a good place to visit for a couple of days since we have a friend who has moved there. Our Friend took us to Brighton Lanes and we were surprised at how quaint it is. It must be very old as it almost makes you feel like you have gone back in time! The lanes lead around the town centre and contain all sorts of weird and wonderful shops from clothing to antiques, hand made sweets, health food shops, hand made beauty products and numerous jewellery shops. And all at competative prices. It made a nice change from the usual high street shops and we spend many hours browsing their wares. Although we could have spent longer. It is an ideal place for gifts as you are ...
