Lawlors Hotel, based in the town of Dungarvan, is a family operated property. The Burke family have run this hotel for over 20 years and have put a lot of time and dedication into maintaining the hotel to the highest possible standards. It is now part of the White Group of hotels
The hotel is located just off Davitt's Quay and a short walk from the town's main square. The town itself is a bustling market town in the South East and is the county capital with the County Council being housed in a magnificent modern building just a little walk away from the hotel.
Lawlors hotel has been a firm favourite of both local and traveller alike to meet for a few drinks, especially after any of the GAA matches played in the nearby Fraher Field. The bar offers the clientele with warm surroundings, friendly service from efficient staff. The decor is rather tastefully done, and is rustic in appearance. The bar offers very keenly priced carvery lunches throughout the week, and the trade in these lunches is brisk - pointing to the fact that they are very tasty and very good value for money!
The restaurant itself is a bit pricier than the carvery available at the bar, but the menu here offers more choice and greater variety. The surroundings are fresh, bright and open. No feelings of being packed in here .... even when the restaurant is busy, as it usually is.
The restaurant menu will offer delightfully prepared cuisine that reflects the food available locally. Fish landed in Helvick Head (at the gaeltacht about 7 miles outside the town, and well worth a visit) and at Ardmore (beyond Helvick and going more towards Youghal, Co Cork) will find themselves on the plates in this restaurant. The vegetables are grown locally, and the meat and poultry comes from local producers.
To stay in Lawlors Hotel is a wonderful experience (I have done this on two occasions). The staff are very friendly, welcoming, and attentive to the needs of the patrons. It is a family friendly hotel. The rooms themselves are impeccably furnished, and well presented. Cleanliness is very evident, and the fresh smell of clean linen on the beds is ever present ( a welcome thing!) Room service including the linen/cleaning service is excellent, and the front desk staff will always ensure that all requests are looked after in an efficient manner.
While there are no leisure facilities as most are accustomed to in modern hotels, this is not to take away from the overall experience of a stay in Lawlors Hotel
There is one slight drawback when staying at Lawlors - and that is the lack of parking facilities. While you can park in the nearby Davitts Quay car park, it is a bit of a walk from the hotel. A limited amount of car parking is present outside the hotel and towards the County Council buildings, but beware the traffic wardens who love dishing out parking tickets if you stay beyond allowed times! (past experience!)
My recommendation: Worth a stay, definitely call for a few drinks and a very enjoyable meal - but mind where you park ... if you can find a space!
