The Secret River
London 1806 - William Thornhill, happily wedded to his childhood sweetheart Sal, is a waterman on the River Thames. Life is tough but bearable until William makes a mistake, a bad mistake for which he and his family are made to pay dearly. His sentence: to be transported to New South Wales for the term of his natural life.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is the book of the month at our book club and is probably not a book I would have chosen for myself but is an extremely interesting portrail into life for people in that age and of the two countries.
This story is basically in two parts, Will's London life and then his Australian life. The two are most definitely linked to each other but in terms of Will's and Sal's feelings and adventures they are worlds apart, or you could say continents apart. The story ...
Advantages: Western fans will be in their element. Disadvantages: They won't let you live there!
If you loved the idea of the film 'Westworld' but don't fancy getting shot at by a malfunctionuing robot this resort could be for you!

Arriving by car, the western motif is evident as soon as you leave the main road that continues to the park entrance, with an impressive sculpture of the fictional town?s founder ...
Advantages: Marilyn Monroe looking beautiful and singing well, good cast, beautiful views Disadvantages: Some dull bits, it's a Western!
In the year following the filming of Niagara, Marilyn Monroe only made two films - the star-studded There's No Business Like Showbusiness and River of No Return. The latter is a 1954 Western filmed in Canada and co-starring Robert Mitchum.
Marilyn plays a saloon singer called Kay Weston, while Rory Calhoun is her partner Harry. They seem happy together, but it soon becomes obvious that they have different priorities in life. Harry is obsessed with making money. He is a gambler who is selfish, greedy and not very likeable.
Kay, however, is sweet, maternal, caring and warm-hearted. She isn't a passive woman though; she is feisty and determined and not afraid to have a go at anything.
Matt Calder (Robert Mitchum) is a cowboy who ends up at the saloon where Kay works. He has just been reunited with his son Mark (played well by ...
