Manufacturer's product description

The origins of this place are from 1995, when its owners established a wine shop with bottles from between 450 and 500 wine producers from throughout France, some of them very obscure. Soon afterward, a restaurant was established in the back of the store that quickly caught on as a dining attraction in its own right. Part of its allure derives from white marble tables, bistro-style chairs, and sunlight flooding in from an overhead skylight. You can order any of 10 kinds of wine by the glass, but if you're really intrigued by anything you see in the store, the restaurant will uncork it for you for a surcharge of 10? ($13) more than what you paid for the bottle, retail, in the shop. Menu items include an extensive selection of charcuteries and cheeses, piled high upon olive-wood planks, as well as a savory collection of meats, fish, and vegetarian dishes. All of these are designed to go well with wines, and with a vast inventory of vintages to choose from, the composition of a savory meal here is ripe with gastronomic possibilities.

Cannes on a budget - yes, you can do it
Review of Cannes (France) by  Aoife

Advantages: Glamorous, no mosquitos, cultural, beautiful, an experience
Disadvantages: Full of silly little poodles & their equally silly owners - can be expensive if you don't watch the prices

...found it in Monoprix (opp the SNCF). 50p for beer, £2 for wine - we were in heaven each night on the balcony. Word of warning - they also have an amazing bakery in-store. Eating out in Cannes is like at home - same styles of restaurants - ultra posh, medium & downright cheap. Cheap is near the Gare (SNCF) - Le Santorin is a gem - set meal 65ff - about £8 per head. Dinner for 2 incl wine & coffee was £17! Medium is sidestreets - Pizza & Salad for about £10 each - nice pizzas though! Posh in on the Croisette. We were told to go to Le Coquille (behind McDonalds!) - we would have been better chomping on Big Macs - £45 for 2 & it wasn't great... grit in the mussels put me right off. Bars vary from big touristy joints with cocktails for £6 or small local bars who only speak French (much more fun). Incidentally there is an Irish Bar... Read review

Le Carlton Le Top!
Review of Carlton InterContinental, Cannes by  vdme

Advantages: the only place to stay in Cannes
Disadvantages: Probably not the most family friendly if your children aren't used to hotels.

...Le Carlton is an institution in Cannes! It is an amazing hotel with history back to the beginning of the 1900's. It was occupied by the Germans during the second world war. The two points on either side of the hotel were shaped after a woman's breasts. Just this information shows you that it is a hotel of immense history and character. The staff are the highest paid hotel staff in Cannes and possibly the Cote d'Azur and it shows in the quality of service. For a full experience try to get a room overlooking the front of the hotel, although the side rooms are larger and some do have partial sea views. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel over anyother in the area.... Read review

Le meridien Paris
Review of Le Meridien Etoile, Paris by  dabmim

Advantages: spotlessly clean, luxury hotel.
Disadvantages: costs

...It was my wife’s 40th birthday, so what could I do that was a little special? What about a trip in a hot air balloon? That was out as she doesn’t like heights. What about a weekend in Blackpool? Not an option as it isn’t her favourite place. So I choose Paris. It would be our first time out of the country together and as a couple with no children! And where better than the romantic capital of the world? So I booked the short stay at my local Thomas cook, and we decided on Le meridian hotel in Montparnasse – Paris. The hotel was built in 1974 and has 25 floors, with eight lifts (elevators) and 953 rooms. The hotel offers a range of ‘extras’ including, 24 hour room service and reception and concierge desk: Fax machine, interconnecting rooms, e-mail facilities, Currency exchange, Laundry/dry cleaning service, Safe deposit...
