Advantages Advantages Unusual and brilliant spectacle

Disadvantages Disadvantages Its all in French!

We have travelled to the Vendee region of France several times and we had heard about The Grand Parc at Puy du Fou but it is billed as a Medieval Theme Park and it really didn't appeal to me! However having "done" many of the attractions in the area and faced with another day of dodgy weather (we were very unlucky in 2008) we decided to give it a go. The tickets were about 25 euroes for adults and 15 for children. However when I enquired about directions at our campsite office they told me that we could buy tickets from them with a 5 euro discount each. This seems to be common practice in the ... more

    Advantages Advantages Excellent family entertainment

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Cost of food

If you ever find yourself holidaying in the Vendee and fancy a day away from the beech or swimming pool then I can definitely recommend Le Grand Parc, Puy Du Fou for a great family day out. It is a medieval theme park which really has no equivalent to it on English shores, perhaps the nearest thing that I have experienced would be Epcot Centre but that would be like comparing the watching of football on Hackney Marshes with a visit to the Emirates Stadium. Getting There It is definitely beyond the range of a day trip from good old Blighty however if you are staying in the popular seaside towns ... more

Advantages Advantages Amazing shows; attractive setting

Disadvantages Disadvantages Too much to do in one day

This was probably the most surreal but amazing day out I've had in a long time. We'd spotted that this place was only an hour from where we were staying near Brem-Sur-Mer. Rather than book in advance we simply turned up with what appeared to be thousands of other people at the same time (around 11am), on this particular day the park opened at 10am. The car park marshalling was very good - although very flamboyant which caused great amusement! It seemed that the car park which we were directed to was miles from the main entrance but it was only a ten minute walk and the route is well signed ... more

Advantages Advantages Pure escapism. Every inch of the park is deisgned for you entertainment.

Disadvantages Disadvantages No shelter. So bring sun cream, hats, and lots of water.

Le Grand Parc/Puy Du Fou is quite simply one of the best places I have ever visited. The sheer scale of the shows was enough to completely win me over but add to that the historical villages that were custom built just as decoration, the shops selling everything from park branded merchandise to themed crafts hand made by live-in artisans, the variety of places avoiding your usual fast food junk and generally the exciting and enjoyable atmosphere, well, let's just say I had a hard time bringing myself to leave the place. At first I wondered how a theme park with no rides would be able to fill ... more

5 Stars Quick review of Le Grand Parc, Puy Du Fou by Level 1 ClaireLMansell 09/07/2007
I visited the parc in August 2006 with my children, 6 and 16 and cannot add anything to the previous thread, but can vouch for it, a magnificent day do not miss it, and do not miss the evening show, a surreal and fabulous day out. We are going again this year!
