After a gorgeous morning at Sacre-Coeur, and having chosen our next destination as Notre-Dame. However we had looked into our travel guide earlier and decided to actually try one of the restaurants listed, one of the cheap ones. However this was aftersome diversionary tactics to avoid the market stalls of Montmartre and a brief Metro trip to Les Halles to escape. We ended up by the St Eustace Church (Where apparently Cardinal Richelieu was baptized) and here was where our decision was made.

In our guide was a cheap little bistro called Le Grizzli it was close and it had a fixed price menu, outdoor seating and looked easy to get to:) So off we went to Le Grizzli…

****Fifteen Minutes later****

“Oops wrong way dear” (Slap) “Ow!!”

Half an hour later and we finally have Le Grizzly in our sights, after a brief side trip to see the Fontaine des Innocents (Have a look if you get the chance peeps it is gorgeous), and it looks perfect for our needs.

Le Grizzli looks like a small outdoor restaurant with limited internal space. Until you get a look upstairs, and you discover that Le Grizzli is like a Tardis (Bigger on the inside than the outside). The interior is nice, clean and very very tasteful to look at. However what littlemissy and I were here for was the outside seating with a bottle of wine and a view of the world passing you by. Now if there is one thing Parisians have sussed its how to have lunch on a summers day.

Both littlemissy and I ordered steak although mine was a Steak au Andalouse and she had her steak plain. We also decided to have some red wine with the meal. Now one thing to warn you of Paris restaurants take their time with food it can be up to an hour you will be waiting for your main course and that’s without a starter. But with the view we had, mellow jazz playing in the background and glasses of cold red wine in our hands we did not care. All was right in the world, we were happy and we were together in Paris.

The food when it arrived was absolutely gorgeous. The steaks done to our requests, the vegetables fresh. No hint, at all, of the dreaded microwave of doom. If you think good French cooking is a myth think again. We were in ecstasy over the steaks and the sensation was heightened by the wine we sipped with our meal. Sadly, and all too quickly, our meal was finished. But unlike certain restaurants the bill did not magically appear to hint that we had to go. We had the opportunity to stay there for a while and digest and relax a bit more before heading on to the Isle de City and Notre-Dame.

Le Grizzli is a friendly and inexpensive Bistro. It has a standard menu plus daily specials that are to die for. During the day you do not need to book just walk up and sit down and a waitress will be along shortly to serve you.

Details:

Le Grizzli
7 Rue St-Martin
75004

Telephone: 01 48 87 77 56

Opening times: 12.00 to 14.30 & 19.30 to 23.00 Mon to Sat
It is closed Sundays

Our meal consisted of :

2 Steaks
1 Sweet
1 Café au lait
1 Bottle of Wine

Total Price was € 52.00 or £35.00
Which littlemissy and I both agree was really good value for money for what we had and the quality of it.

Here is a web hit for Le Grizzly as well:

Oh yes one little tip if you do the sitting outside the restaurant thing make sure you sit further back in the shaded area. Otherwise you can get a bit hot.

Sounds like an excellent place!

Did she warn you about ordering too rare a steak? The French know how to cook steaks properly and if you aren't careful you can get it just a little too bloody for your liking. Sounds like a nice place, I've heard of Rue St Martin, so it much be a fairly major thoroughfare.

A trip to Paris would be wonderful, It's my 10th wedding anniversary on 29th August but I don't think we're going anywhere.
