Although it took a while to get to speed after 1989 and many folks were faced to high unemployment and heavy restructuring of the whole society, today Dresden presents itself in a new spirit and mix: Baroque and High Tech. At the same time when tons of investments have been spent to restore all old buildings and other cultural substance - the ?King of Saxony? (the Saxon's call their minister Kurt Biedenkopf that way) opened all doors for new technology and corporations that wanted to be the first at this East German Silicon Valley. GM daughter Opel opened Europe's most modern automobile manufacturing site there, Siemens established Infineon, Intel's first European competitor in the city and lots of youngsters from all around the nation settled in and around Dresden...

.... The Skating movement is really big and rich of influence here.
Every friday at 8 pm the skaters meet at the public halfpipe on the street "St. Petersburger Strasse". That is the one with the big diamondlike UFA-cinema and opposite the majors house. You can get there by public transport going to "Pirnaischer Platz".

At 9 pm the parade starts, escorded by the police, wich also closes all the used streets for traffic. (So, if you are dringin around friday nights in Dresden by car or bus make sure to have much time to spend by waiting.)
The route changes every week and you get a good impression of all faces of Dresden, seeing europes most modern car factory or the old Zwinger, crossing the river.
Mostly there are between 2,000 and 5,000 skaters on the road...

Advantages: free entry on thursdays Disadvantages: very alternative
...- in more dirty industrial ruins, so I don’t care. But if you're not familiar with alternative parties, you should not go to the AZ.
Party dates you find in the citymags like SAX or Dresdner or on flyers in the pubs.
AZ Conny is situated in the alternative district Neustadt in the street Rudolf-Leonhard-Strasse 36. You can find it here on the city map:

You can go there by bus or tram, but I cannot advice you one, cause they are changing the routes frequently (I think the city council is trying to get the people confused for some reasons.)
So you should really decide, it that kind of music is something you like. If so: Have a look!
