A couple of months ago I visited the UAE (United Arab Emirates). I stayed with my boyfriend’s brother in a town called Al Ain, which is about 1 hr 30 minutes from the popular destination of Dubai (You may want to check out my review on Dubai).
Apart from spending a couple of days in Dubai, we also spent 2 days (one night) in the 5 Star, Le Meridien Al Aqah Beach Resort in Fujairah.
***********Where is it?*********** Fujairah is Nestled between the Hajar Mountains and the Indian Ocean, Le Meridien Al Aqah Beach Resort is situated on a superb stretch of private Al Aqah Beach in the picturesque emirate of Fujairah. The resort is located on the east coast of the United Arab Emirates, Approx 49 kilometres from Fujairah town and 90 minutes from cosmopolitan Dubai. All rooms at Le Meridien Al Aqah Beach Resort enjoy a sea view.
*******The Resort Facilities*********** As you drive up to the hotel you will be greeted by several smartly dressed employees who will park your car. They will also take your baggage and bring it to your room as soon as you have checked in.
The first area you come to in the hotel is the lobby. The lobby has several shops, which contain gifts, flowers and other interests. It also has a very nice Thai restaurant, which can be a little pricey but is well worth the money. You will pay approx £30 per person for 4 courses. There are 4 restaurants in total (Thai, Indian, Fish and mixed menu).
The main restaurant occupies the floor below the lobby. This restaurant serves breakfast lunch and dinner to the majority of guests. It’s a lot bigger than the other restaurants but serves a larger menu, which is also child friendly. I ate breakfast in this restaurant and it had the widest selection of food that I had ever seen in one meal. They really catered for everyone here.
The basement floor is home to the health and fitness suit. There is a range of treatments available as well as a hairdressers, pool shop, sauna (non mixed so you can let it all hang out, if you want), gym and steam room. You can access this floor using the lifts provided and the pool area. The pool area is where you will spend most of your time, as it is very spacious with many activities.
For those of you who like to relax, you can do this by dipping in the pool, lying on the sun lounges and having a drink in the pool bar. There is also a bar on the top floor, which has live band performances. This stays open late art night.
The children can play water volleyball, football, and other activities, just be aware that this resort is not ideal for families with small children as there is no crèche and no kids club. The beach also offers banana boats and other water activities, which is just a step away.
Because the area around the hotel is desert, the resort takes regular trips into Dubai and surrounding areas. So if you get tired of relaxing and want to up your holiday a gear of two then this is for you.
Next to the pool is a fish restaurant. I didn’t have time to sample this restaurant but it looked really nice. It’s an open plan with a thatched room on top and looks very romantic.
***********The Rooms***************** The rooms are fantastic. On entering the room, there is a large bathroom on the first right of the hallway. The bathroom has a separate room for the toilet and a separate shower and bath. It has very luxurious fittings with tiled floor, which is in a very good condition. The bath is also home to 3 rubber duckies. We couldn’t help taking one back home with us as it has the hotel name printed on it. Be prepared to have this deducted from the bill. Ours wasn’t but be warned.
Next-door is a large cupboard, which is accessible by sliding along the mirror door. The cupboard is very spacious and can easily fit a large families luggage. There you will find complimentary slippers and robes to use during your stay.
All double rooms come (as standard) with King sized beds and balconies facing the sea. The mini bar will be locked but this is not so bad because the hotel provides some drinks and snacks outside of the mini bar in case you get hungry. These are free. There is also a bowl of fruit and some hand made chocolates for your arrival. We also had a large table for business use, a sitting area with footstool, Internet connection (free to use), hairdryer and a large TV.
The balcony was also very large with 2 chairs so you can sit and watch the sun go down.
Price: We spent one night at the hotel and it cost just over £100 for a double room, which is very good considering that it’s a resort, not just a hotel. I would like to go back for longer and have seen many Internet packages for 5 days bed and breakfast for just over £500.
*******Conclusion********** This resort is fantastic. The weather was great and the facilities were first class. It was great to have a room with lots of space and a pool area that was not crowded. This hotel is still pretty quiet as its relatively new. There is only one other small resort next to it so the area is very peaceful for the amount of rooms in the hotel. I would highly recommend it for couples although it is recommended for families with older children. Young children are not recommended because there is no kids clubs or evening entertainment, just good food and bars. I think the price is fantastic considering that this is a 5 star hotel. It’s cheap because the UAE is very cheap (when compared to Britain). I would highly recommend it.
Advantages: Dry weather Disadvantages: oil lumps in sea, items appearing on bill
...being told that they were not part of the massage, and upon our departure we found that they were more than twice as expensive as the massage.
And this spoils the good experience.
No one from Al Aqah, Le Meridien, nor Starwood was willing to compensate for that. ...
