Advantages Dry weather
Disadvantages oil lumps in sea, items appearing on bill
The hotel is as you would expect from a five star hotel: spacious rooms and bathroom, good beds, seaview, friendly staff. However potential guests should be aware of a few spots:
The beach only had clear water on one day. All other days two staff were busy all day long collecting crude oil lumps from the beach, as apparently the oil tankers are still washing their tanks while passing the area. The hotel provides wet wipes to help you remove the spots once you've been hit by them, which will inevitably happen whilst you are in the water. While the water was not clear we noticed quite a few of plastic/refuse bags in the water. It looked like they had been washed in from somewhere and did not make swimming a nice experience.
When we signed the receipts we did not bother asking for copies, but we'd advise guests to do so. We had not expected that this would be necessary, but were wrong. My wife had a full body massage in the spa and went there without glasses, so she was not able to read the content of what she signed at the end. She was given some bath ingredients without being told that they were not part of the massage, and upon our departure we found that they were more than twice as expensive as the massage. And this spoils the good experience.
No one from Al Aqah, Le Meridien, nor Starwood was willing to compensate for that.Detailed Rating

As someone who never lies on the beach and wouldn't use the spa I didn't learn much about this hotel that would help me decide if it suited me. What about the rooms, the facilities, the food - and where is it, what does it cost and so on? Have a good look at some of the VH and E rated hotel reviews to get a better idea of what readers are expecting from a really useful hotel review.
