In light of your comments I've added some more details, as suggested. Hope this is more helpful!
When we went for a weekend in Amsterdam with another couple we got a great deal for two standard rooms at this hotel via Expedia. Situated at the junction of several canals in a quiet neighbourhood, the place is pretty much surrounded by water so all the views were lovely and there's a really serene atmosphere.
From the exterior, the hotel looks slightly dated, one of those concrete block style of buildings, but there's a fantastic koi pond outside the front door, all set in a sort of rockery hillock which you can walk through and around. As soon as we walked in to the attractive lobby it felt opulent, with beautiful floral displays everywhere. The staff were great and the service impeccable. During the short wait for our rooms (we wanted rooms next door to each other), we visited the Lounge Bar and had coffee and cakes while looking over the canal. Everything we had was great and the service was attentive. The prices were "hotel prices" but not too shocking!
Our rooms were nice and clean and although the furniture and decor was not the most modern or new, the rooms had been well decorated in a neutral way and so it was perfectly liveable. The bathrooms were lovely and clean with a good shower, and the rooms were filled with all the usual freebies and facilities, including a telly via which you could access all sorts of services including the internet. There were these brilliant huge high windowsills which we climbed up and sat on to watch the canoes from the rowing club opposite. It felt like we were floating on the water as it was right outside our window.
We didn't use the restaurant or the gym so I can't tell you anything about them! I don't think the place had a pool of its own.
The tram line was two blocks away (three or four mins walk). They came every five or ten mins and took about fifteen mins to get to the central station. But at least we got to see the sights of stunning Amsterdam on the way! If you wanted to stay out to the small hours you'd need to get a taxi back, but it wasn't that dear. We didn't mind the fact that the hotel wasn't the most central because it was so tranquil.
The only problem we found was that when we went to check out, we discovered that the Amsterdam Marathon had completely cut the hotel off from the rest of Amsterdam! We couldn't get a taxi from the hotel and had to dart through a stream of runners with our suitcases which was very hairy indeed! Funny, though. But if you avoid that weekend of the year you should have a lovely time!

Hi. I just about made this VH because you've clearly worked on it, but it would be useful to have known the actual price, also a bit more about how it is located relative to the main sights in the city. Duncan

Sadly, no brekkie included in the deal I got...shame because I read somewhere that the restaurant was very good. Still, I can't complain because we really didn't pay that much considering it was 4 star; I can't remember exactly what it cost but I remember it was less than the some the three star places I'd been looking at. Cheers!

I liked the review. Was breakfast included in the price of the stay? It certainly sounds more salubrious than the place I used to regularly stay at on the Damrak during my younger days.
