Having been to Barcelona on business, I was keen to return with friends, so found a good package deal including Easyjet flights and 4 nights at Le Meridien. The hotel was rated as 5 stars and had a great position on Las Ramblas. Price for the hotel was approximately £150 per night for a deluxe double including breakfast. On arrival, it was disappointing to find that the main reception area and lounge was being refurbished, so we were directed to a temporary reception which was very busy, and full of cases as people departed for cruise ships etc. Our room was not ready, so we had a walk around and were finally allocated a room on the 3rd floor. Initial impressions were good, as it was newly refurbished in a smart, minimalist style, and the bathroom was large, with a huge walk-in shower. Unfortunately, there was no bath, so check on this if this is important for you. The view was also disappointing - the back wall of some offices and appartments. Due to the refurbishment, public areas were very limited. Theer was a small lounge, with great service, and rather expensive prices. (Spirit with mixer around 11 euros, coffee 3.50 Euros. ). We did not eat dinner in the restaurant, but breakfast was good, with an excellent choice and omlettes etc made to order. Unfortunately on our last morning the flat roof above the breakfast room sprung a leak after an overnight storm and water was running through the live light fittings - rather worrying!
I would certainly visit Barcelona again but would look around for an alternative hotel - we saw several with pools on the roof and more spacious public areas, priobably avaialble at better prices.
In the second half of the 19th century, famed architect Antoni Gaudi dreamed of a Barcelona filled with vibrant colors, interesting shaped stonework, and original design. Today, you will see the fulfillments of Gaudi's dream throughout the city and within easy walking distance of Le Meridien Barcelona Hotel. The hotel is ideally situated on the famous Las Ramblas, the iconic boulevard of leisure and entertainment in Barcelona. Find yourself in the midst of the excitement, while experiencing world-class luxury and stunning views of the city and glorious sunsets. The harbour, Barri Gotic (Gothic Quarter), El Liceo Opera Theatre, museums, and restaurants - all within walking distance - are waiting to be explored. Additionally, the hotel is just 12 kilometers from El Prat International Airport. Overlooking the famed Las Ramblas, our new restaurant and bar, Cent Onze, is a wonderful place to relax. Le Méridien Barcelona is currently undergoing a 25-million Euro renovation, expected to be complete in November 2007. The transformation of the lobby/reception area will serve as a symbol for the new image of the hotel. The new deluxe guest rooms provide the pinnacle of European luxury and comfort. Conference facilities, a stunning grand ballroom, and a state-of-the-art boardroom will provide business travellers with a stylish locale for their meetings. A fully equipped fitness centre will provide a respite from the stresses of work. And an elegant lobby bar will provide a beautiful place to gather.
