Cannes has always been one of the most cosmopolitan cities along the Riviera, and the success of this Armenian culinary outpost seems to prove it. It has no menu, although once your experience here is finished, you'll know a lot more about the cuisines of Armenia, Turkey, and Greece than you did before. For a set price, you'll experience an abundant medley of dishes that will be brought to your table in quantities you might find staggering. Expect about 20 cold plates, at least a dozen warm plates, enough vegetables to warm the heart of the most fanatical vegetarian, and at least five different desserts. There are lots of braised eggplants, tomatoes (both stewed and raw), an emphasis on cracked wheat in the form of such dishes as kechgeg (stewed beef served on a bed of cracked wheat), cabbage stuffed with mint, grilled meatballs with fresh herbs, and many others. According to owners Christian and Lucie Panossian, about 80% of the dishes served here are steamed rather than fried, establishing this place as one of the most health-conscious eateries in town. You'll find this place directly on the coastal boulevard, a short walk from the Hôtel Martinez.
Advantages: Glamorous, no mosquitos, cultural, beautiful, an experience Disadvantages: Full of silly little poodles & their equally silly owners - can be expensive if you don't watch the prices
...found it in Monoprix (opp the SNCF). 50p for beer, £2 for wine - we were in heaven each night on the balcony. Word of warning - they also have an amazing bakery in-store.
Eating out in Cannes is like at home - same styles of restaurants - ultra posh, medium & downright cheap. Cheap is near the Gare (SNCF) - Le Santorin is a gem - set meal 65ff - about £8 per head. Dinner for 2 incl wine & coffee was £17! Medium is sidestreets - Pizza & Salad for about £10 each - nice pizzas though! Posh in on the Croisette. We were told to go to Le Coquille (behind McDonalds!) - we would have been better chomping on Big Macs - £45 for 2 & it wasn't great... grit in the mussels put me right off.
Bars vary from big touristy joints with cocktails for £6 or small local bars who only speak French (much more fun). Incidentally there is an Irish Bar...

...of the ferry service. Our destination was the island of St. Margaret, sprouting from the Mediterranean, just a few miles from Cannes. The ferry boat was nice and the short journey through the deep blue Mediterranean was amazing. You will get fantastic view from boat terraces at the front and rear of the boat.
St. Margaret is a very small island inhabited by a handful of local people running restaurants and cafes. The main attraction here is the castle of "Man with the iron mask". It is a medieval castle on top of a hill. We could feel the history and sense the mystery while walking along the narrow cobbled alleys inside the castle. There is a museum inside the castle. You can get some breath taking views from the castle terrace at the top of the hill, rising directly from the sea. The whole place is a stark contrast against the modern...

Advantages: This is one amazing hotel with everything you want in one of the greatest cities of France Disadvantages: pretty much non-affordable for normal folks
...will find the Palais d`Festival, where they have these celebrations every year, and the elder city as well with plenty of nice restaurants. They have a great selection of food and wine from the Provence region and seafood as well. And that at really affordble prices. I will gladly recommend `Pacific Express`(it ain´t as bad as it might sound) to everybody thinking of visiting Cannes.
I had a great time there, even though I was just staying there for 3 days for that presentation and I will recommend to at least see that historic hotel (18th century building I think) at least once when you´re around.
Thanks for reading
Marc (Superfly25)...
