Advantages: Wonderful city Disadvantages: Pollution
...numerous places to eat (of particular recommendation are the Tex Mex called 'Salsa Verde' and an Italian called 'Le Bistro Roman'). Although I never personally went there myself, I have been told that Vieux Lyon is home to some lovely small restaurants that are cheap and offer fantastic food. In terms of lunches, you can go to Carrefour (there is one in the 'Centre Commercial') or any other supermarket and get some lovely French bread and make your own. Alternatively (and my favourite choice), there are numerous bakers around, the best and most common of which is called 'Paul'. Here you can get a baguette with ham and cheese for about €2,40. This is well worth a visit as Paul makes the nicest sandwiches around!
When to go
I went in early summer time (end of June) and the sun was cracking the flags each day. France and especially...

...during World War II in 1944, involving Winston Churchill, U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Canadian Prime Minister William Lyon Mackenzie King.
Coming from the airport, you seem to drive through a cityscape that becomes progressively less north-American and more familiar to European eyes. You wouldn't be surprised had this been an enclosed courtyard, but instead the road goes out past the far end of the hotel to the Terrace Dufferin on the left...

Advantages: the location Disadvantages: the decor in the room
...I decided to book the Roosevelt Hotel after looking at many travel brochures for different hotels, I decided on the Roosevelt because it was fairly cheap and looked nice in appearence, it was also pretty close to Times Square, I think it was only two/ three blocks away, and Grand Central Station was just round the corner.
There are taxis parked outside all day long waiting for you to get in and take you wherever you want to go, whether it was the airport somewhere in Manhatten or the Bronx (which is where I went one afternoon).
The hotel itself- The hotel is very grand and decorated very old as it is like stepping back in time. The lobby is beautiful in the old style decor.
We didn't have to wait for long at the front desk to be seen to and before long we were off in the lift upto out room.
The room- I was very disappointed...
