The other side of Beirut
Review of Beirut (Lebanon) by sean0107

Advantages: The virgin diving to Westerners
Disadvantages: The way South!

**********INTRODUCTION********** Whenever anyone mentions Beirut visions of war, unrest, kidnapping and death are conjured. I had heard on the grapevine that Beirut was the place to go for diving that was “a bit different”. I was not too sure if my preconceived opinions would get me there! However, I decided to take the plunge. My friends looked at me in horror when I told them where I was bound. I was sure some of them were ready to ...
...Lebanese coast and 4 in Beirut itself. Things have come along way from the war years when diving was a hazardous pastime when common problems included being stranded out at sea whilst shelling took place or finding yourself the target of snipers who would "shoot anything that moved"! Most dives are between 16 metres and 37 metres so expect two 30 metre dives per day. Technical divers have dives on offer up to 70 metres and is certainly gaining in ... Read review

Review of Tripoli (Lebanon) by SMacdonald

Advantages: Good prices, Rich in history, Friendly people, Different cultures,Untouched
Disadvantages: People know very little about what this country has to offer

...I chosen to write about Tripoli in Libya!? Well, I lived there as a primary school student for 8 years, and I now visit there every summer. So I thought I would share my knowledge of this very interesting country. The first thing I should do is dispell any rumours of Libya being an unsafe place. Libya has been in the media a great deal over the past two decades and many people have been given a bad first impression of this country. In the eighteen ...
...Tripoli has not changed greatly since its discovery in the first millenium BC. The purity of this city is both refreshing and charming. It has a wealth of monuments, old and new, surrounded by olive trees, palms, grapevines, and orange groves.120km away from Tripoli is Lepcis Magna, one of the best preserved Roman cities in the world which covers 3.75Km squared. On the other side of Tripoli and even closer is an equally impressive Roman city called ... Read review

A site not to be missed
Review of Faraya by Mrs.Nadine

Advantages: mountain and countryside atmosphere and yet, not too far from the sea shore
Disadvantages: A bit expensive

Faraya is the name of a small mountain village in Lebanon. It is one of Lebanon's tourist citations for many reasons. The first reason that makes it an attraction is the weather. If you are visiting Lebanon in the summer, than spending few days in faraya is a must. Unlike the city, Faraya retains a nice cool misty breeze in the summer that giver the impression that one is in an illusion. As for winters, if one is a skiing fan than sliding upon faraya ...
...The third reason that makes Faraya a must if you travel to Lebanon is the old countryside image. If someone has a fancy for an old countryside, then Faraya is a place to visit. Once a person gets there they would get the feeling that they have got back in time. While roaming around, one can spot an old Shepard wearing a traditional baggy trousers, holding a wooden stick and waving to a bunch of cows and even a young lad filling a gallon of water ... Paradise missed! (Or so it would seem)
Review of General: Lebanon by Librelola

Advantages: Rich historical and archaeological as well as cultural country
Disadvantages: Not many for tourists, but slightly expensive

The Lebanon may not seem an ideal holiday destination to many, but to some, the idea is rather tempting. Most people are in a sense still frightened, because of the war that tore the country for over 15 years, from 1975 (although some say earlier) until 1990. Who can blame them? The truth is, Lebanon has been rebuilding itself (too much in a way) since 1990, and although there have been episodes of car bombings and explosions in the past 15 years; ...
...that have shocked London in the past same 15 years. ******************************* At first sight, a country the size of Lebanon might seem insignificant, but size is certainly not an issue here. Inside its 10,452 square kilometres (4,036 square miles), Lebanon is packed with interesting things to see. Historical and archaeological sites abound, the landscape is beautiful (although needs more protection), the food is delicious, night life in ... Read review
