Friendly and comfortable Advantages: Friendly staff and good amenities. Disadvantages: Local Press I visited Le Meridien Commodore in January 2007. Visiting Beirut was an amazing eye-opening experience, and my stay at this 5 star hotel helped to make me feel safe and comfortable. The staff are brilliant, friendly and always willing to help, the food was lovely and the drinks even better! It's the only place to stay if you are visiting Beirut. The hotel is situated in the heart of Beirut, in the 'famous' Hamra district. The taxi drivers can be slightly over enthusiastic about your custom, however if you are lucky like me you will find someone very willing, helpful and possibly a friend for life. Room with a view Advantages: Clean, friendly staff, relatively cheap. Disadvantages: No frills in rooms The Quality Inn I don't want to repeat what Vodkaboy wrote in his thorough review of the hotel in 2005, so I will just add my own particular observations from my recent stay at this hotel in October 2006. Tripoli is geographically in the North of Lebanon and roughly one and a half hours drive from the capital Beirut. It was thankfully spared from the recent carnage and is totally safe to visit. On my recent trip there, the city was bustling with ... ...their attention to service and quality is second to none. My hope is that those who have not explored this beautiful and historic country will soon visit it. Returning to the hotel review, many local people did recommend it as as only decent hotel in Tripoli which is up to international standards. I did find that the rooms are spacious and are cleaned every morning or at your request in the afternoon. Furniture is drab, perhaps in the same motif ... Size does matter, specially in the bedroom! Advantages: Large, spacious rooms, clean, only decent hotel around Disadvantages: basic, poor breakfast ...north. Yet. The Quality Inn is located to one side of the dusty city centre, in the Rachid Karami International Fair, which is an Exhibition centre. A large, clean, modern, six-floor central block flanked by two five-floor wings, it looks too big and very out-of-place among the dusty, drab, grey concrete tower blocks. I have always associated the Quality Inn group with budget motels and small, inexpensive hotels, so I did not have high hopes for ... ...specially considering this was a Quality Inn. The double bed was a good size, firm and comfortable. There were bedside tables on either side, a TV, minibar, work desk of a good size and an easy chair. Plus enough room beyond all that to park an elephant. The furniture was all fairly basic, it was not luxurious by any stretch of the imagination, but it wasn't meant to be. Reception have the answer Advantages: Comfy room, kettle in room, Trader Vic's Disadvantages: Little hotel info ...central Beirut, next to the Gefinor Center (I may be jumping to conclusions but I guess that might be why it is the "Gefinor Rotana") which is a large office block with three wings, home to the offices of many international companies, and maybe Reception. The street is quite narrow, so you get to experience some good Beirut traffic on arrival and departure. The airport is just fifteen minutes away, so thankfully you don't have to enjoy the traffic ... ...main door, there is a jewellers on the left, then reception. The first time I arrived it was about 9.00am and the room wasn't ready but they got one for me within half an hour. Since then I've arrived at more sensible times! The people the desk are always friendly and welcoming; last time, as I arrived, they tried to guess who I was - they had a handful of people arriving late in the evening and they got me on the second try!
