Kidnapping at The Cottage

Advantages: Suspense built well in parts, a bit funny at times.
Disadvantages: Poor script, very flat film on the whole, lacks overall energy and excitement.

From director Paul Andrew Williams (London to Brighton), 'The Cottage' is a comedy horror film which originally achieved a UK cinematic release in March 2008. This dark British film stars Andy Serkis, Reece Shearsmith, and Jennifer Ellison. Brothers David and Peter come up with a master plan in order to bag a large sum of cash between them. The plan is that they'll kidnap the daughter of a big time gangster, hold her hostage, and demand £100,000 ransom. It all seems so simple, it doesn't quite go according to plan however and before long everything starts to go wrong for the two brothers. As the £100,000 looks increasingly less likely to become theirs, things go from bad to worse and the brothers, along with their hostage Tracey find themselves to be in a very sticky situation indeed. This bungled kidnapping gets incredibly messy as ...

Brighton Pier

Advantages: Free entry
Disadvantages: Gets very crowded

Seaside piers seem to be a very British tradition and there are many different examples to be found in England and Wales, although oddly none exist north of the border in Scotland. Brighton's pier is one of the most famous of them all. Officially known as The Brighton Marine Palace Pier or the Palace Pier for short it officially opened in the May of 1899. By this date the Victorians and their predecessors had already built many other piers, including two earlier ones at Brighton. Brighton's first pier was constructed in 1823. This was known as The Royal Suspension Chain Pier and still existed in 1891 when construction of the Palace Pier began. At this time the Chain Pier was considered to be unsafe and was in a state of disrepair so one of the conditions attached to the construction of the new pier was that this old one was demolished ...

The Cottage

Advantages: Some funny parts, alot of gore.
Disadvantages: Jennifer Ellisons accent.

This review contains some spoilers. Introduction Maybe you haven't heard of 'The Cottage', it hasn't had a major release anywhere across the world (including the U.S.), but I watched it close to the release date of the 14th of March. On leaving the cinema I couldn't decide on which way my opinions were going; did l like it, or didn't I? Hopefully this review will help me to decide. Firstly, it is a fairly low budget film; and I can only describe it a horror comedy. Filmed mainly on the Isle of Man and Yorkshire, you can imagine the kind of scenes this film has. Plot Two brothers think up an ingenious plan get rich quick, they kidnap a crime lord's daughter and hold her ransom in a remote cottage. From the beginning it's a disaster, the kidnap turns into a botch job as the amateurs make mistake after mistake. Upon entering ...
