Totally Tropical

Advantages: Educational, unusal, great value for money
Disadvantages: Not great for younger kids

Tropical World is situated at the Roundhay Village end of Leeds Roundhay Park. It is an intriguing combination of winter gardens and zoo with a series of expertly created landscapes such as Amazonian rainforest, Australasian desert and swamps for the visitor to explore. Curiously - sine the theme is short-lived, you embark on your trip via the "HMS Tropical World" - not a ship at all just a concept - and the first stop is a tropical beach scene; ...
...a mock up of a tropical beach. It's at this point that everyone takes off their hats and coats in preparation for the heat and humidity that lies ahead. Each ecosystem is home to the birds, fish, insects, plants and trees that would live there; obviously there are some limitations - this is not a zoo and it is all indoors so there are no large animals and only a limited number of animals and birds. Nevertheless you can see a small troop of industrious ...

Eureka! I've found it!

Advantages: Interactive and educational
Disadvantages: Prices

Eureka is without doubt the best children's museum we have found, and even better - it's three miles away from our home! Our children absolutely love Eureka and with everything at Eureka designed to inspire children to find out about themselves and the world around them, it is the perfect space for little ones. I went myself a few times through my childhood, and at the time I never felt that I was learning, but as an adult you can sense that every ...
...front of Eureka's mission. Eureka is an award-winning attraction and educational charity for children, based in Halifax, West Yorkshire, which is open 10 - 4 p.m. every week day, and 10 - 5 p.m. at weekends and during half-terms and holidays. It was recently named one of the top three favourite family days out by The Independent. I like that Eureka runs events and activities throughout the year which you can join in, for example in the summer we ...

West Yorkshire Playhouse-Cybercafe

Advantages: Cheap and very friendly helpful staff
Disadvantages: None

I've been going to the West Yorkshire Playhouse now for some time, not for the theatre but to use thier excellent CYBERCAFE and get training from MARK- the Cybercafe Manager and tutor. The Cybercafe is now widely talked about in Leeds (and beyond) as a place to surf safely and gain advice and help on any 'IT/Internet' subject . While there, I've seem people getting help with CV's, advice on which computers to buy, do courses and get full tutor support. ...
...including the BBC, Niace and although no longer a learndirect centre-the Cybercafe others over 800 courses. I can highly recommend this as a cybercafe, it may look a little old now (it's over 5 years old) but the service you get is second to none. Whether you work, are unemployed or an actor-everyone is treated with respect and gets the same help and attention. I travel around the UK with my work and this Cybercafe is unique and stands miles above ...

On Guard!

Advantages: Lots to see, free and interesting
Disadvantages: Quite a drive for me

...times were, he suggested the Royal armouries. I had never been before, and as I like to try new things we decided we'd give it a go. The final deciding point was that it was free, and we were rather skint. Easy to find: Mmmm? Well, I'm not too great at directions so I just left that part to my boyfriend. He went onto the Armouries website to get them, and looked at a map to check that he had them straight in his head. He scribbled a few directions ...
...we went. I must admit it seemed really easy to find. Everything was very well signposted, and at least two or three junctions before we were due to come off the motorway there were those big brown signs telling us which exit to take. Once off the motorway there were still plenty of the brown signs telling us which way to go. But my boyfriend had looked up the directions to a multi storey car park which was near to the armouries, so he asked me ...
