During a conversation with a London couple recently, they had said they like to spend odd weekends in different parts of England between their main holidays. We started to discuss the various places around England like York and Harrogate among other places. When I mentioned Leeds, they were a bit surprised. Then my husband and I decided to "educate" these Londoners. After that I thought, "Hmmmm..... I wonder who else would like to know about Leeds?"

#1 Shop, shop and shop again! Leeds has 5 covered shopping arcades- Grand, Queens, Thorntons, Victoria Quarter and Market . These beautiful gems from days gone by have been loving preserved and make for a day out just to look at the architecture. However, they also house a treasure-trove of shopping opportunities. Leeds has it's own Harvey Nichole's as well as all the other designer label stores!
Also, there is the Corn Exchange that offers a variety of alternative shopping. Then there is the Granary Wharf, Leeds shopping Plaza, Merrion Centre, St. Johns Centre and Headrow Centre. They sell everything from hip-hop trendy clothes to the more "posh" threads of high society. One can get jewellery of every kind that are top quality and range in prices from the affordable to the "WHAT?"
#2 Having a night out! Leeds has pubs, bars and nightclubs for EVERY taste! You can go to the local for a pint or find your way to the posher wine bars for a nice glass of Merlot. If dancing is your fancy, just take your pick- Gay or Straight. These are the places to be!

~How to get to Leeds?~
Airport- Leeds and Bradford International Airport (LBA) is approximately 11 miles to the North West of the city of Leeds, near Yeadon, Rawdon, Horsforth. Allow about 22-25 minutes by car, longer in "rush hours" especially the evening one. There is only 1 terminal. Arriving by the one way road the terminal stretches along the road, you reach the departure area first, arrivals being further along the building. Leeds and Bradford International Airport has flights to and from a wide range of UK and European cities.
Train- The Leeds train takes you directly to the City Centre is is neer the Queen's Hotel.
~Other bits and bobs~
Leeds is a cheaper city to explore than London. It is not as large and provides a maximum variety of things to do. It is perfect for a romantic weekend away to a full hen or stag do!
Leeds is a growing city and everyday it seems to change. At the moment, it seems like the place to be. It lends itself to all tastes!
Advantages: Some excellent shopping , architecture, pubs , and friendly folk Disadvantages: Some boring bits
...from a day out in Leeds and was not initially very impressed. It's not that Leeds is particularly bad, it's just that nothing seems to grab you, until you look a bit further . Maybe it was because I only had a day there, and was on foot, but my first couple of hours there left me about to give up on the place. However despite the huge amount of , for want of a better word, "adequacy" , in the city centre there are some gems to be found within walking ... ...~~ Why I Thought Leeds City Centre was only Adequate
The City centre contains a lot of medium sized shopping malls, sort of "Arndale" centres , that seem to fall between two stools,. The seem to take up a lot of space , but not contain much that is interesting . There are all the usual suspects (HMV, Virgin, BHS , Mothercare etc), but its nothing you couldn't find elsewhere. You think, "I can get all this at home, so why bother coming to Leeds". ...

Advantages: Big, decent shopping, dcent night out Disadvantages: Scruffy, snobbish, expensive, granary wharf, that whole side of town
...Admittedly, credit where credit's due, Leeds is extremely good for shopping. The centre is about five times as big as Bradford with about 2/3 of that being used for the main shopping area. That 2/3 is absolutely fine, there are specialist shops, "oddity" shops in the arcades, selective shops, bargain shops and your common-a-garden high-street shops. Apart from the arcades, the vast majority of the stores are contained within "Arndale" type shopping ... ...now...). All in all though, Leeds Centre accounts for very pleasant shoppping. The bit I don't like though, is the remaining 1/3 and the areas as you move out of the city centre. Walk towards where the Granary Wharf is. Over that way is loads of rough ground used as makeshift car parks, grotty railway tunnels and the "widely acclaimed" Granary Wharf. The rough ground and all that is just a waste of perfect;y good ground that could be used very well ...

Advantages: Leisure complex, off the tourist route Disadvantages: Staff seemed uninterested in the guests
After her wedding in early April, my daughter and her new husband decided to take a few days honeymoon in a quiet location away from all tourists and holiday makers (they both work in the tourist industry).
Following an extensive search they plumped for four nights in a suite in a five-star luxury hotel outside Leeds, the De Vere Oulton Hall hotel. The agent made a point of explaining to the hotel that this was a special holiday.
When they arrived ... ...they were told that because the room was not ready, they should go away and come back later!!!!!!
Room service delivered incorrect meals, breakfast was sent up with no cutlery and was cold by the time they had themselves collected some from the dining room, bathrobes were torn and needed mending, carpet gripper strips were exposed near the windows.............
.......... the honeymoon couple came home after only three nights. Do you blame them?

It also ... ...night clubs, cinemas and theatres. Leeds is also home to the Harvey Nichols store. Advantages: location, easy to park, small airport so not confusing Disadvantages: price of car parking
Having switched to the small low cost airlines in the past year, I have noticed that they operate often from smaller airports. And a good thing too, in my opinion.
I flew with Jet2 to Amsterdam a couple of weekends ago. Jet2 is the new low cost airline operating out of Leeds Bradford-very welcome to any of us from Yorkshire who have had to go to Liverpool, manchester or Birmingham prior to this.
I'd never visited this airport before and was amazed at how easy it is to get to. It's not far from Leeds or Bradford and is served by a bus from Leeds train station several times a day.
You drive up and park literally just outside the terminal building. There's plenty of short term and long term parking. It's just a step into the terminal building. I would caution people that it's expensive to park at Leeds unless you are long ...
Advantages: small, easy access to get there Disadvantages: none
this year i flew to benidorm from leeds/bradford airport. this was the first time i had been to this airport as i usually fly from manchester, even though leeds/bradford is a lot nearer for me to get to.
Thsi is quite a small airport comapred to all the big ones like manchester and luton. The good point about it been small is that there are no long queue's to queue in whilst you check in. And i hate queuing as well, so i was pleased about that.
Its easy access to get to this airport by car, taxi or bus if you live in the leeds or bradford area's or around there. It took me about 20 minutes to get there in the car.
Whilst checking in the staff did not say much apart from how much luggage you got, so can't really say that they was friendly though.
There are plenty of car park spaces at the airport, and security guards were walking ...

I recently used Leeds/Bradford for a flight to Munich via Amsterdam with KLM....the airport is now much bigger than last time I used it, with further plans for expansion, I think they have ruined the upstairs view from the cafe, by putting a stupid corridor from the ground floor to the baggage reclaim area, so you go up stairs and alsong this corridoor only to go down again to the reclaim area......stupid and poor management..I wonder how many casual visitors have been put of from visiting the Airport now..anyway, my experience from a passengers point of view was generally very good, facilities are better than ever once you go through the security check....
