As a students of the University of Leeds for the last three years, I feel I am more than qualified to give you a good insight into the Leeds experience.
Leeds is a great city with many exciting things to do. Situated in the county of Yorkshire, Leeds is regarded as one of the major and most glamourous cities in the UK.
Firstly, the people in Leeds are so friendly. There is a really nice atmosphere when you walk round Leeds city centre and this is a definite plus. Also with the University of Leeds and Leeds Metropolitan University - the city is very student friendly. Most students I know have had a fantastic university experience in Leeds.
SHOPPING. Leeds has great shopping, situated in a fairly
compact shopping centre.
*Harvey Nichols With doormen in hats to open the door for you and with a great range of designer goodies to tempt you, Harvey Nicks is definitely worth a visit - especially if you have money. Otherwise it might be a bit depressing looking at all those expensive things and not being able to afford them!
*Rose and Co. This shop is simply amazing! Located in the Victoria Quarter, this fancy little boutique sells gorgeous cosmetics with retro packaging, jewellery and other little interesting trickets. Even though its a relatively small shop, there's so much packed into it that you easily spend an hour in there. Great for gifts.
*River Island, Topshop, Oasis, Dorothy Perkins Loads of girly shops with the latest trendy designs. Be warned that Topshop gets very hectic, especially at weekends!
*The Light Shopping Centre Containing a cinema, Mikey jewellery shop, O'Neil shop, Body Shop and a JOY, as well as restaurants including Ma Potters and Nandos, the Light is a great place to visit. The shop JOY is ace - with gorgeous clothes and funky accessories. Definitely worth a look
*Faith, Office, Schuh, Dune Great shoe shops and plenty of them!
*Primark A relatively recent addition to Leeds city centre, but definitely worth checking out if you want fashion on a budget. Like Topshop gets v v v v hectic and busy, but worth sticking it out to find a bargain. Belts, bags and jewellery are great - very trendy and cheap.
NIGHTLIFE. Leeds has nightlife to suit everyone, plenty of student nights and plenty of other alternatives too. Here's a BRIEF overview:
*Baja Beach Club The ultimate cheesy club on a beach theme. Student night is on a Tuesday but is also popular with locals and visitors to the city at weekends. Has great cocktails and good drinks offers.
*Evolution The best Saturday student night. Situated outside Leeds city centre on a industrial park in Kirkstall. 3 rooms of fantastic music and cheap drinks. A must if you are a student.
*Headingley Headingley is where most students live and it has great pubs like the Original Oak, Skyrack and nice bars like Trios and the Arc. At weekends locals also go round Headingley. If you don't fancy clubs, then go to Headingley, the atmosphere is really relaxed and friendly and no way near as rammed as Leeds city centre.
*Townhouse I'm not a big fan of this club. Music is usually funky house and jazz. Free entry on Saturday nights and is packed with posers. Be careful of the stairs, they are steep and get slippy!
*Oceana Recently opened - this is a fantastic night out. Not only is it a club but it has lots of themed bars in it too with plenty of seating areas. A moulin rouge themed bar, japanese themed bar and aspen ski lodge. A really classy place, with great variations of music. Good during the weekend and also good at weekends.
ATTRACTIONS. *Royal Armouries Great day out for families - with impressive war and battle armoury displays and demonstrations.
*West Yorkshire Playhouse Fantastic plays staged throughout the year.
*Golden Acre Park Situated outside Leeds, on the outskirts of Headingley, this a gorgeous park, great for a walk during the summer
*Thackery Medical Museum An interesting day out for the family. Very different to other museums I've been to.
*Ilkley If you are staying at Leeds for a weekend, I suggest taking a trip to Ilkley. This quaint little town with lovely little shops and tea rooms is perfect for a romantic day trip.
RESTAURANTS. *Browns, Ma Potters, Nandos All situated in the Light, reasonably priced food in a nice airy atmosphere.
*La Tasca I love this restaurant. Part of a chain serving tapas and meditarranean food, it has a lively atmosphere with meditarranean decorations and colours.
*Dinos Italian situated under Leeds train station, this place is great! Competition for tables is fierce, so I suggest booking! Gets v v v v v v v v busy at weekends.
*The Calls Grill A great place to go for a delicious steak. But quite expensive. Nice for a treat though.
With so much to do in Leeds, I would defintiely recommend Leeds for a day or night out. If you are applying to Universities, definitely consider the University of Leeds - it has a fantastic reputation and lovely campus, with great facilities.

Advantages: Best city in England. It's in Yorkshire, fab entertainments, something for everyone to do, see and enjoy. Plus, I was born there! Disadvantages: Ey, let's not be starting on my hometown now, ok!?
