Advantages: Great scenery and wildlife Disadvantages: Away from major airports
...I had been to thekkady a few years back.It has one of the most beautiful lakes in southern India. The journey to Thekkady is very scenic and the lake itself is quiet and peaceful. The boat rides in the lake are fascinating with great photo oppurtunities. You will have fantastic oppurtunities to enjoy wildlife at close quarters at the same time in the safety of your boat. Watching the hordes of elephants on the shores eating or drinking or having a bath are all enjoyable and different. you will have a chance to see baby elephants being taken care of by other elephants and the way they play and feed in their natural wild environment is a chance of a lifetime. If you are planning a journey to southern India thekkady, kodaikanal and munnar are a must see....

Advantages: scenic beauty, wildlife if u lucky to see any Disadvantages: infrastructure
...Kerala has good holiday offers in India since last five years and thekkady is part of tour package of kerala. Thekkady is known for wildlife and spices.
It is reserved area for wildlife. Journey is very scenic and beautiful (more beautiful in monsoon). The main attraction Periyar wildlife sanctury and tiger reserve. One has to go inside lake in boats to see tigers and other animals. Boats trips are regular from other side of lake to inside.
I went to thekkady before 3 years. Unfortunately we couldnt see any tiger or other animal during boat trip. Also hotel was not good. I think hotel are over priced there. One big market having all spices on sale. very aromatic and original. If u love indian food you must buy spices from here.
Also we went for famous kerala body massage. It was good though not as per promised. I will not recommend...

Advantages: view, location Disadvantages: pricey, shallow water
...I have stayed in coco hut village which is on hadd leela beach. This is a small beach with only two hotels. The beach is beautiful although the water is very shallow to swim in, and there are quite a few rocks. Coco hut has small bungalows some of which are beach front and have amazing views to wake up to. This is only a short walk up a steep hill to the full moon party and the central town in this area. In the town there are a number of places to eat, drink and party (but take a torch for the dark walk back!) .It is nice to stay somewhere that is close enough to the full moon party without getting all the noise or the dirty beach that the full moon party creates. This beach is a nude sunbathing beach although not many people actually do this. Hotels arent amazingly cheap for what you get but are worth it for the location. Coco hut has...
