I first went to Legoland Windsor when I was 4, my mum bought herself and me a single entry Legoland ticket. I have been many times so I decided it was time to write a review.
--- WHERE IS IT? ---
It is in Windsor, which is to the west of London, to get there travel on either the M4 or M3. Turn off when you start seeing signs to Windsor. When you are nearly and in Windsor, you will see brown signs directing you to "Legoland" and some yellow signs showing you an alternitive route. It is not recommended that you use a sat nav because it sends you down a residental street.
--- TRANSPORT LINKS ---
There is a shuttle bus that runs between Windsor Town Centre and Legoland every 30 minutes.
--- PRICES ---
ENTRY
The cost for an adult is £37 and for a child (3-15 under 3's free)/senior (60+) £27. I have a Merlin Annual Pass but if I didn't, I would say this is great value for money.
FOOD
The food prices are, in my opinion, brilliant it costs around £5 for an adult's baguette that comes with a drink and a piece of fruit, and a child's baguette (half the size) comes with a (smaller) piece of fruit and a (non-fizzy) drink.
SHOPS
The Lego sets are reasonably priced, you may see a giant Lego set for £42.99 and a little one for £3.99. It depends on if you like Lego or not.
*PLEASE NOTE THAT IF YOU HAVE A MERLIN PASS, YOU GET A 20% DISCOUNT AT FOOD OUTLETS AND SHOPS.*
--- RIDES ---
The rides are aimed at 2-11 year olds, but I would recommend them for 4-9 year olds. I will now go through each "land" individually and review the rides in that "land".
THE BEGINNING ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There are no real "rides" at
The Beginning, however there is the Pitstop Cafe, Lego Big Shop and a clothes shop. There is also an information centre where you can buy an annual pass.
The only "ride" is the "Hill Train"
*** HILL TRAIN ***
This is more of a transport link than a ride. This takes you to either The Beginning or Kingdom of the Pharoahs
Thrill Factor: 1/10 Fun Factor: 2/10
IMAGINATION CENTRE ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
At the Imagination Centre, there is Papa Moles' Ice Cream shop and a popcorn and candy floss stall.
If you feel like watching a movie, there are three to choose from at the Imagination Theatre. Bob the Builder: 4D, Spellbraker: 4D or Lego Racers: 4D. It's a 4D cinema.
*** SKY RIDE ***
I feel this is more of a monorail with one stop than a ride. It goes slowly up...and down...along the track...and down.
Thrill Factor: 2/10 Fun Factor: 1/10
Hmm...not looking too good at the moment for Legoland...
*** SPACE TOWER ***
This is a flat ride where you pull yourself up using a rope and when you let go it you drop. It is very fun.
Thrill Factor: 4/10 Fun Factor: 6/10.
Whilst you're near the Space Tower, don't forget to visit the three building centres where you can race a car, build and collapse a tower or created something with Lego and technology.
DUPLO LAND ~~~~~~~~~~~
This is the area of the park aimed at 6 months - 4 year olds. It has a carvery and a pasta place.
*** LEGO TRAIN ***
This is a small train ride which slowly rides you round a small track.
Thrill Factor: 2/10 Fun Factor: 3/10
*** XTREME TEAM CHALLENGE ***
Ride in a dingy down a waterslide and reach speeds of 35mph! WARNING: You will get wet! A wet bottom that should be...
Thrill Factor: 5/10 Fun Factor: 7/10
Don't forget to splash around in the Waterworks!
LEGO CITY ~~~~~~~~~
This land is themed around a town, a Lego town!
*** ORIENT EXPEDIATION ***
This is a train ride with faces and animals that squirt water at you. WARNING: You will get wet!
Thrill Factor: 6/10 Fun Factor: 6/10
TRAFFIC ~~~~~~~
In this land, let the kids take over the road! Just don't ask them to drive your own car back along the M4.
*** L-DRIVERS ***
3-5 year olds can drive around a simple oval-shaped circuit.
Thrill Factor: 2/10 Fun Factor: 3/10
*** DRIVING SCHOOL ***
6-13 year olds can drive around crossroads, through tunnels, get close to billboards, get flashed by speed cameras. There's everything!
Thrill Factor: 3/10 Fun Factor: 5/10
There are also many shops and a big resturant.
WILD WOODS ~~~~~~~~~~~
This is themed around pirates...yarr...'tis.
*** PIRATE FALLS ***
This is Legoland's log flume. It has one big drop. There used to be rats that squirted you with water, but they've been moved.
Thrill Factor: 6/10 Fun Factor: 5/10
Let your kids run wild in the Rat Trap. There is also a hot dog stand.
*** SPINNING SPIDER ***
This is a teacup ride.
Thrill Factor: 5/10 Fun Factor: 5/10
KNIGHTS' KINGDOM ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Knights' Kingdom has the two dragon rides for those brave enough!
*** DRAGON ***
This is Legoland's first roller coaster. The Dragon takes you on a tour around a castle before you zoom outside and ride around.
Thrill Factor: 6/10 Fun Factor: 5/10
*** DRAGON'S APPRENTICE ***
This is the little brother of the Dragon. It's smaller and provides less of a thrill.
Thrill Factor: 3/10 Fun Factor: 5/10
There is also a resturant and various treat stalls.
LAND OF THE VIKINGS ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Vikings have got their boats out but which one to ride?
*** VIKING RIVER SPLASH ***
Sit in the circular boat and bump along the river and enjoy getting squirted and splashed! WARNING: You will get wet!
Thrill Factor: 5/10 Fun Factor: 4/10
*** LONGBOAT INVADER ***
This is another "kiddie" ride. The boat goes up...and down...gently up...gently down.
Thrill Factor: 2/10 Fun Factor: 1/10
There is a hot dog and candy floss stand
ADVENTURE LAND ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This land is themed around dinosaurs. There are three rides which you will love!
*** DINO DIPPER ***
It sends you up and down, but faster than the Longboat Invader.
Thrill Factor: 4/10 Fun Factor: 6/10
*** DINO SAFARI ***
This travels you around a track with various dinosaurs and giant creatures to be seen.
Thrill Factor: 3/10 Fun Factor: 2/10
*** JUNGLE COASTER ***
This coaster is Legoland's star attraction. But which bit do you like better? The big drop or the tight turns. I would've given it a higher rating, but in 2007, the cars had roofs installed. Helpful to protect you from the rain. But no thrill.
Thrill Factor: 5/10 Fun Factor: 5/10
(New for 2009) KINGDOM OF THE PHAROAHS ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is the brand new land for 2009. Kingdom of the Pharoahs. It's themed around Egypt and it used to be one half of Lego City.
*** LASER RIDERS ***
A ride which isn't worth queueing up for. It's a ride where you shoot LCD targets with a laser gun. Sounds fun, but there aren't any drops or anywhere where you go up. Flat on ground.
Thrill Factor: 3/10 Fun Factor: 4/10
*** AERO NOMAD ***
A small ferris wheel, need I say anymore?
Thrill Factor: 3/10 Fun Factor: 3/10
*** DESERT CHASE ***
A small carousel, need I say anymore?
Thrill Factor: 2/10 Fun Factor: 1/10
OVERALL
Legoland Windsor isn't a thrill park. So don't go there looking for EXTREME thrills.
