Leicester, very much part of Middle England, has attracted large numbers of immigrants, especially Asians from the Indian sub-continent and East Africa and they have added plenty of colour and entrepreneurial skills to the city.
The sports scene in this city is good, there is the home ground of Leicestershire County Cricket Club,Leicester City are a Premier Division side and Leicester RFC are one of England's strongest rugby union sides. The cultural infrastructure is well developed with pride of place going to the Phoenix arts Centre and the Haymarket Theatre.

The Midlands city is well endowed with good quality hotels,it receives a lot of business visitors, comfortable guest houses and homely bed and breakfast places. I taught for several years at an associate college of Leicester University and one of the great pleasures of my frequent trips to the city, was dining out.For a city of its size,Leicester has numerous good restaurants and,in particular, there are some marvellous Indian restaurants, whose sternest judges are the local Indians themselves.
There are discos and night clubs in town and a number of interesting, congenial, pubs to savour. Whilst Leicester would not rank as a must-see spot for leisure tourists,it is a pleasant enough city for a short visit !
Advantages: Surprisingly varied for its size Disadvantages: Newly affluent, but some extremely deprived areas
I've lived in leicester for some years now and I think it has a lot to offer. Though not a tourist destination in its own right, it is possible to spend a few hours or several days here without running out of things to do.
The city centre is compact, partially pedestrianised, and about 7 minutes walk from either the train or bus stations. As well as all the usual High Street shops and banks expected of a bustling city, there are 2 shopping complexes, ... ...watch straps.
Arts centres in Leicester include The Haymarket Theatre (shows and plays), The Little Theatre (Gilbert and Sullivan), The Y (jazz), De Montford Hall (ballet, opera, comedy), and The Phoenix centre (film and dance). Leicester has several cinemas including one showing Bollywood films. Approximately 10 minutes walk from the centre is Belgrave Gate, home to a large population of Indian and Asian people. Here you can find fascinating shops ...

, if I am ever in area again I would go back and stay at this hotel. (Obviously not if its for university though!) We think it was an enjoyable stay for free and we are pleased that we could redeem the points for this stay.
P.S The hotel website informs me that the hotel staff speak the following languages: Chinese , Czech , English , French , German , Italian , Polish , Spanish

Located close to Covent garden, Fire and Stone serve a variety of pizza's cooked in England's biggest wood fired oven. Nearest tubes are covent Garden, embankment or Leicester square.
The entrance on Maiden lane doesn't prepare you for the size of the restaurant, boasting room for 250 diners set over 2 floors. The post code is WC2E 7JS if you wish to search for a map or look on the website, details below.
So, I was with my boss again having my annual appraisal and he wanted to go and check this place out. Upon arriving we were greeted at the door and taken upstairs to be seated. My first impression was that the place was massive and perhaps a little soulless, the high ceilings gave it a barn like feel and since it was lunchtime on a Friday I expected it to be a lot fuller (I imagine there's more atmosphere when it's packed, but ...
Advantages: Plenty to do come rain or shine. Disadvantages: Can be polluted and busy.
I have lived as a student in Leicester for two years now. The city has something for everyone - shops, pubs, clubs, a beautiful canal walk, parks, plenty of public transport and much more that I have yet to find out. Clear nights lead to bright sunsets over this flat area of England. It isn't far from the lovely English countryside either. Leicester is vibrant and growing all the time. The University itself is friendly, compact and has a great nightlife. On the wildlife side, I have often seen foxes, kestrels, bullfinches, squirrels and of course the town pigeons! ...
