It was early in January 2003 that we decided to book a short family holiday at the Centre Parcs resort in Zandvoort (Netherlands) for late April school half term.
We booked the 5 day holiday at Zandvoort through Leisure Directions and received confirmation of the booking, ferry tickets, insurance and details of the resort within a week or two of the booking.
Having made all the necessary plans and arrangements for our 300 mile journey which would take us to Dover, across the channel, through France, Belgium and eventually up to the Zanvoort on the north west coast of the Netherlands we were more than ready for our holiday when the day of departure came.
Yes we took the usual two or three wrong turnings and got caught up in some traffic near Antwerp but other than that everything went very smoothly on our epic 6 hour car and ferry journey to Zandvoort.
We finally arrived in Zandvoort and evntually located the Centre Parcs resort. We parked the car and went to reception to receive our chalet keys.
The receptionist checked her computer data base. Then she checked it again. Soon the Manager was checking it.
He escorted us over to a table and sat us down. He informed us that the Leisure Directions booking had never been made as it was rejected back in January as the resort was fully booked.
We asked if there were any cancellations. No. We asked if there was any other accommodation in the resort available. No, it was one of the resorts busiest times of the year.

The Manager was great. He contacted Leisure Directions and eventually agreed to book us in at Port Zeeland a smilar Centre Parcs resort about 150 miles south of Zandvoort.
To cut a long story short, we eventually arrived at Port Zeeland at 11.45pm just in time top collect our chalet's keys.
Our holiday was nearly ruined. Leisure Directions paid for our accommodation at Port Zeeland and evetually paid us £100 compensation.
This year we booked direct with Centre Parcs and had a great short break at Zandvort.
