AbelTasman is a New Zealand National Park located just outside of Nelson on the North Coast of South Island. With its golden beaches and clear calm blue seas its the perfect place for sea kayaking so at Easter 2005 a group of four intrepid GAP year students set out with AbelTasman Kayaks to explore the park.
Fortunately the weather was good, because although the company run thorugh winter, I think good weather makes the whole experience a lot more enjoyable.
Being short on time we undertook a guided day trip - Beaches and Islands - which cost $99 per person. This includes: A kayak trip, a water taxi from Marahau to Anchorage and back, a substantial lunch and a guided bush walk should you so desire.
The groups are relatively small - about 12 people, or 6 double kayaks and the first part of the morning is meeting your group ...
Advantages: Nice stroll, good plants Disadvantages: Steep
If you only can spare time to seek out one plant in New Zealand, it would have to be the most famous of all its plants - the silver fern. If, on the other hand, you are a nature lover and you find yourself with a free afternoon to spend in Wellington (New Zealand's capital city), then I strongly recommend the Botanic Garden for its plants, scenic views and pleasant strolls.

The gardens span some 25 hectares and if you are anything like me, they will fill as much time as you have to spare and then some.
People with bad knees or small children be warned though - it's pretty steep and you may struggle a bit! There are some mobility scooters available though. I came here ...
Advantages: Location, freindly helpful staff Disadvantages: bit tired/dated
We are just back from 4 nights in The Wellington Hotel. We booked it back in Jan'07 thru an online hotel booking site (I may have mentioned it in other reviews) We also booked flights directly with BA thru their website.
We had stayed in NewYork about 2 years ago in a YMCA in the upper westside. However as my oldies were coming with us we had to book a hotel.
We booked a suite at The Wellington for around £780 for 4 adults for 4 nights and the BA flights from ABZ cost around £1,200 for the 4 of us.
We arrived at JFK around 1600hrs and after clearing immigration and a lenghty taxi journey we arrived at the hotel about 1800hrs.
The hotel looked impressive from outside, the lights of Times Square were visable from the front door. The reception area is very nice, a huge chandalier greets you. The reception desk is small and quite ...
