...The History
Lelant is a small community about 4 miles from central St Ives, in Cornwall. Lelant sits on an estuary joining the River Hayle with the Atlantic Ocean; as a result we have both river, and sea. Lelant's history documentation only goes back as far as 1708, however it's known that back in the 1300's a town sat upon the banks where now sits a golf course. In a freak storm the town was lost along with all its inhabitants, they were buried ... ...being uncovered. Back in 1708 Lelant was a big farm; by 1715 it had developed into three farms. Slowly over the years it grew and grew, by the late 1700's it was an established village, it boasted shops and a church. The potential for Lelant was noted at an early age, as a result it was preserved as much as possible.
In the 1800's Lelant became one of the biggest ports in Cornwall, with people travelling to Lelant to take residency in America. But ...
