Let me take you for a walk through a village. There a little cafes and restaurants with seating along the pavement ever couple of meters and not a Starbucks in sight! Believe it or not you are still in zone 2 of London, just a stones throw away from Camden!

Primrose Hill is an adorable little village right beside Primrose Hill Park (just North of Regents Park and London Zoo) but you could easily be in a little holiday village somewhere.

Some friends and I decided that it might be good to go out for something other than Chinese and concluded that Greek food might be a nice change… We didn't really know any such restaurants so we resorted to the Yellow Pages our criteria that they were close enough to walk to!

The fruits of our search was Limonia… it was only a while after our visit when we told other people about the restaurant that we discovered that it was actually a very well know establishment and apparently even famous people go there (you do get a few of them in North London!)

We found the place very easily. It is on the main road that runs through the village. When we arrived there were tables and chairs outside and inside it was quite big (we were expecting a little "taverna" type place!) There were free standing tables and also booths suitable for up to 6 people. The walls and ceilings are decorated with foliage which gives it a very "outdoorsy", "lemon grove" kind of feel. We had a booth waiting for us… The staff were friendly and made us feel welcome.

The menu is pretty typical for a Greek restaurant… No more extensive or restrictive… Greek food is quite similar to many other cuisines from around the Mediterranean area. As with many restaurants there is a short description of the dish underneath its name. This can be quite helpful as not everyone will be familiar with dolmathes and spanakopitas (excuse spelling any Greek readers!). As you can imagine there are plenty of dips… Humous (chick pea), Aubergine, Tzatziki (yoghurt/cucumber salad)etc. all served with warm pitta bread… This sort of food is quite sociable as you all just dig into the plates in the centre of the table and get to try a little bit of everything!

Starters and main courses are once again pretty much the typical Greek fayre. Dishes such as vine leaves stuffed with tomatoey meat and rice, spinach and fetta filo parcels and for main dishes like skewer kebabs and lamb and fish (and of course calamari). Most of the dishes are served with rice but there is the bread and accompanying salads dips and olives to dig into as well. If you enjoy social eating then there is, what is called, meze. This is a meal whereby you get a series of dishes… including the starter dishes, lamb shank and dessert bits… a bit like a set meal. That works out about £15 per head (ish) which I'm sure you'll agree is very reasonable for well known speciality restaurant in such an area.

I hope this has given you an idea of what is on the menu… I do not plan on listing dishes as an opinion planner as I don't think it will add much for you in the way of information. I will add that there are dishes that are suitable for vegetarians although I do not know whether they are OK for those with nut allergies as we didn't ask… They *do* serve products such as desserts containing nuts!

As you can imagine there are various desserts from things like fruit salad to ice cream… There are also a selection of Greek desserts such as baklava (filo pastry layered with syrop and nuts). I am not so keen on this (partly because I know how to make it and know how much sugar and butter is in it!!!) But most people I know go mad for this pud! As it is very yummy indeed! …. Hmmm maybe I'll do a recipe op one day!

As I have mentioned about it is a reasonably priced place… When we went out there it worked out to be in the region of about £25 ish per person including everything.

Limonia is indeed an adorable restaurant… It gets busy so you may be wise to book… It is possible to park in the street but it may be difficult to find a space. Their number is 020 7586 7454

The address is 88 Regents Park Rd, NW1 8UY if you want to look up it's location. It's nearest tube is Chalk Farm (Norther line - Edgware branch)

Is has a sister restaurant called Limani which is also on the same Rd… If you can't get a booking you might want to try there but I have never been there so don't know if it is as good.

All that remains if for me to hope that if you visit you have as nice a time as we did.
