...very safe. TIP, Take a comfortable pair of trainers you will thank me for this tip!! Sense of direction, forget it. The buildings are 4 stories high and twist and turn all over the place, we ended up at the canal side on more than one occasion, oh there are signs pointing that a way, but when the pavements turn every dozen metres, you will find yourself thinking "have we passed this jewellers before"?
St Marcs Square is really stunning, expensive but it has a real wow factor. The Campanile is a 300ft tower with a lift that gives you a full 360 degree view of Venice. Also here is St Marcs Basilica, the beauty inside here is awesome, with a visit inside to the treasure room, other places of interest are Ca'd'oro which is a beautiful Gothic palace, the bridge of sighs given its name we where told because prisoners passing underneath would...

Advantages: A must-go city to visit in Italy, before it disappear!!! Disadvantages: No
...My first trip to Venice was via a package holiday. We spent a day there and I am going to share with you my fantastic day.
We had an early start. by taking the train from the station behind the hotel to catch a boat to take us on the Grand Canal(Canal Grande) to the St Martin's Square(Piazza San Macro) in the centre of Venice. Got off the boat to take a walk on the waterfront-I could already see the gondolas parked.
Venice is a very special city as it consists of many islands and canals-very interesting indeed. Walked passed the Palazzo Ducale, which used to be the office of the Mayor of Venice, took a picture of the Bridge of Sights with replica all over the world. The bridge connects the office of the mayor/governor to the dungeon opposite and it was the bridge that any sentenced prisons would walk pass to see Venice...

Advantages: PRICE and GOOD LOCATION Disadvantages: STAIRS AND ATTIC ROOM
....
It is located off a small Alley in the Cannaregio District of Venice. The best local land mark is the Church of Saint APOSTOLI find this and your only 80 yards away. The nearest Vapporetto Stop is on the Grand Canal at CA'D'ORO, if you get off here go straight with canal at your back. Turn right along STRADA NOVA which brings you to the Church, turn left and look for the small alley on your right.
The hotel itself is quite small but TALL. There is a small Lobby with Check In desk, we found the Staff Friendly and helpful. Just off this area is a small office/kitchen area for the staff.
Now for those DODGY KNEES, NO LIFT.
A stair case leads to the first floor where there is a large Gallery with about 6 Rooms that open off the Gallery.
We found our room quite pleasant and bathroom in good order.
Beds were comfortable and clean...

Firstly the photos of the hotel and room are quite deceptive; the Carlton Grand Canal Hotel is a crummy looking hotel with tiny rooms but apparently this is to be expected in Venice- it is also useful to note that there are many dilapidated looking... more
