Restaurants are many and varied, and although some are reasonably priced some are also expensive. Ski hire is reasonable from the shop at the funicular £10 a day, but the ski pass is quite expensive £110 for 6 days.
We stayed in a place called Le Pre which normally has a lift which takes you up into the resort, and you can ski straight back to the Chalet at night. Unfortunately it had been unseasonably warm and the snow level was at about 1600. Which means a trip to the funicular every morning. It is well worth having your own transport for this eventuality. also it means that a trip further afield to mingle with the beautiful people in Val d'Isere or eat at one of a number of good restaurants is possible.
I would recommend optimum ski www.optimumski.com the chalet I stayed in in Le Pre. A very friendly Chalet with great service
Avoid the sport bar near the Funiculiar in Saint Bourg Maruice I got food posioning from a burger there !

Advantages: Huge Ski Area-Huge bar area! Disadvantages: French Airports!
...famous resorts in the Alps, Les Arcs is a purpose built resort on 3 levels. The 3 Villages at 1600, 1800 and 2000 have individual qualities which make them unique.
1600- near to bars and shops, obviously lower down the mountain , but more traditional than the other 2. Also nearer to the beginner slopes which makes it ideal for the family.
1800- Party Party Party! Bars and clubs, floodlit skiing.
2000- the highest and the best snow, purpose built ... ...many ski in /ski out residences.
Having stayed in all 3 places over the past few years all offer fantastic skiing and link brilliantly around the mountains and with the New link lift accross to La Plagne making this the biggest ski area in the alps (now bigger than 3 valleys)
Always seems snow sure , with a variety of skiing on offer, good for all levels of skiing and boarding.
NOTE- Although the 3 levels are easy to access on the slopes, getting ...

...and I can honestly say Les Arcs is the best ski resort I have been to. I went there about 3 years ago, and our hotel - the name escapes me - was built into the side of the mountain in Arc 2000. The boot room was on the top floor, which confused us on the first day. We went to the boot room got ready for our first days skiing, as we stepped out on to the snow we were greeted with our own downward slope on to the main chair lift which then took us ... ...can't find anything to complain about Les Arcs, except maybe a little expensive. During the evenings there were ski shows on the lower slopes, complete with traditional brass bands, BBQ's, hot dog stands etc. So if you want a memorable ski holiday, try Les Arcs you're bound to enjoy it. ...

Advantages: Everything you want from a ski resort Disadvantages: It isn't in England
Les Arcs is one of the most famous Ski resorts on the French Alps
It has a wide range of Slope with some breath taking scenery and a very efficient ski lift network. For the more advanced Skier there is also a lot of off piste skiing available as well as some great black runs. The real thing that sets Les Arcs apart from other resorts is the nightlife. There are lots of very friendly restaurants and even more bars with a great atmosphere that will ...

Advantages: Ski two countries in one day Disadvantages: Small village
This is great small resort not too far from the big motorway runs of Tignes and LesArcs. It has about three bars and five hotels, plus some appartment blocks. Its skiing is very good, and because its not the most well known place ever, is less crowded than its neighbours. If your not from Europe then take your passport - this is a place where you can ski in two countries on one day, by going down the back of the mountain to La Thuile in Italy. Cool !. One other thing - the drinks are cheaper in La Thuile, so as a challenge, drink as much as possible in Italia then try and ski back. Snow here seems quite good even late in the season, perhaps because it is less busy. Enjoy this one if your are with partner, not a group. ...

Whether you are staying in Provence or merely passing through, its well worth a short detour off the A8 Autoroute to visit the Maison des Vins de Cotes de Provence.
This "House of the Wines of Provence" is on the old main road (N7, near LesArcs (no, not the ski resort, this is a different LesArcs) a little way East of Vidauban. If you thought all Provence wines are pink, this will be a revelation. They appear to have every worthwhile wine of Cotes de Provence in stock at reasonable prices and each week they offer at least six of them on a generous free tasting. Try the reds - like most red wines in France today they are sold too young, but the quality is excellent. And try the whites - a fairly limited range but again well worth trying.
Now of course you won't want to drink and drive. Fortunately upstairs is an excellent ...
Advantages: beautiful, good snow record, sunny, begginner to intermediate, family resort, quiet, friendly Disadvantages: old lift system, limited runs,
Great snow conditions in this resort normally between mid February to mid march for the best powder. A southerly facing resort means it benefits from plenty of sunshine too so make sure to take your sun block!
La Rosiere, named so because of its gorgeous pink sunsets, is a smaller and upcoming resort which both benefits and detracts in its appeal. Basically it is a fine place for beginners and intermediates to learn and improve but if you are a seasoned skier there are only about 7 blacks in the whole France/ Italy ski area and even those cannot be regarded as real blacks being narrower rather than steep to gain this title. The views you get here are breathtaking, you can see right up the valley to the dam in Tignes, LesArc's is directly opposite La Rosiere on the other side of the valley and from the Fort you can see the tip ...
