Meribel-Mottaret takes a lot of beating as a ski resort. Smack bang in the middle of Les Trois Vallees, arguably the biggest and best skiing area in the world, it benefits from great snow, a wide variety of accommodation and decent shopping.
At 1700 meters, it is some 250 meters higher than the main village of Meribel and about 5-10 minutes further on by road, making it effectively a self-contained resort. Access is easy from Lyon (St. Exupery) Airport. The journey by coach takes around 3 hours and costs 62 Euros each way, or you can hire a car and do the drive in less than 2.5 hours.
Geneva and Chambery airports also give easy access,, but hiring a car at Geneva is less convenient and flights to Chambery are limited.
Driving all the way is also a popular way to get here, with the journey from Calais taking around 10 hours ...

Advantages: Location, Piste Area, Snow Disadvantages: Night life
removed the lid of the toilet and left it off, was simply a problem with the toilet filling up with water. No more toilet problems for us.
Night-Life:
As Mottaret is a smal resort some 5-10 minutes further up the mountain than meribel it is fairly self contained, with a limited number of pubs, and one nightclub. Very expensive in my opinion, as are most ski resort night clubs, i found there to be ample bars to keep us busy. If your looking for a lads holiday, looking for ladies, i wouldnt recommend coming here, was mostly full of families or couples. On a plus note the night life in meribel is slight better and is a free bus ride away. Meribus runs from before i awoke each day 9am isj. Until the last bus upto Mottaret at 11:50pm, or there abouts.
Plenty of bars to go around in meribel, but in my opinion not quite as good as Val D ...

Advantages: Guaranteed Snow / Amazing Ski Area/Great Apres Ski/Excellent Restaurants Disadvantages: French School Holidays.Very crowded.
absolutely the place for you.It has 600km+
of fabulous pistes in all 3/4 Valleys.You can ski for a week here without ever doing the same run twice:Meribel is the best place to stay as it is in the very centre of the 3 Valleys.You can reach Courchevel/Les menuires/Val Thorens so easy
that you are totally spoit for choice.
ADVANCED:
There is more than enough off piste & moguls to keep anyone happy.I would thoroughly recommend the French Ski School off piste daily adventure.Its about Ł35 a day plus lunch but the memory will stay with you for ever.It's real off piste with a high mountain guide,sometimes to either of the two Glaciers.If you are lucky enough to have a fresh fall of deep powder splash out and take this course.You will not regret it.
