I have fond memories of Les Gets, the small Alpine village in the Haute Savoie. It was where I learnt to ski, and I had a fantastic time. The flight is normally to Geneva- a short flight- but the downside is that it is a long coach transfer. The roads are just a bit scarey to the resort (my friend was ill), so if you can afford it pay for a transfer by taxi- its about £90 now! The village is very pretty, based around one main road that links the valley with Morzine on the other side. A few shops, some bars, and a poor nightclub (l'igloo); but great skiing. On one side you have Mont Caly and Mont Chery. This is the highest skiing in the resort, is virtually snow sure, but is not that extensive, it does link with the back of Morzine if you fancy skiing one of the scariest runs I have ever met in my life! The other side is called "Les Chevannes", and is a winter wonderland. Slighlty lower mountains, sunny, a bubble gondola to get you up there as well as chairlifts, and a massive ski area that links superbly with Morzine and even on to Avoriaz. Some great nursery slopes and lovely green (easy) runs, though some of the greens were a bit short back to the village. Once you are in the mountains, superb blues and reds (medium) and lots of them too. A good selection of mountain restaurants, and lots of lovely scenery and lakes to ski past. A good place for the family, there is a free bus to Morzine, and it is a safe village to be in. It is France, so the Ecole du ski (ski school) can be a bit of a mixed bag, if you don't get an English speaking instructor have a moan about it, and they sort it out. Equipment is easy to hire, and if anything a little cheaper than the brochures. If you fancy France, somewhere a little off the beaten track, great skiing, then this is for you. It is too quiet to go on a stag night to though!
I have a tip for nightlife. We stayed at Le Boomerang in Les Gets, a hotel run by an Aussie Frenchman (honest!) and we had a great New Year's Eve party there. The bar was lively most nights, with a couple of musicians keeping things ticking over. They've just added Le Boomerang II, and they're on the web if you want to take a look.

Good review, even more so because you clearly know what you're talking about. If only I could afford a holiday...
