Paris, the Marais, a few steps away from the New Opera Bastille, the Musee Picasso and the Place des Vosges (the oldest square in Paris). It is within walking distance of the St. Sebastian Froissart Metro Station, which offers easy access to every part of this exciting city. The hotel is composed of nine gorgeously maintained 19th century buildings surrounding an impressive and unique courtyard with private gardens and terraces that reflects the charm of Provence in the heart of a busy metropolis. The Les Jardins Du Marais completed a total renovation in 2002, and it was upgraded to a 4 star quality hotel. Each of the spacious, comfortable guestrooms and suites are tastefully decorated in light, airy colours with modern furniture and attractive prints adorn the walls.
Advantages: Lots to see and do, the metro, Disadvantages: Eating out can be expensive, everyone else is there too (everyone loves Paris)
...anyway so it was not a big issue for me. The most fascinating thing about the Centre Pompidou is the building itself. It seems like they have turned it inside out so there are pipes, steel, escalators etc everywhere…the building stands out in other words. This area is not very far from the shopping center Les Halles and I think it is one of the few places in Paris where we felt a bit uncomfortable with our surroundings. With the crowds I guess it is an ideal place for pickpockets to operate. But there are some fun things in the area…like the colorful fountain on Place Igor Stravinsky, the public clock "Le défenseur du temps" or the Fontaine des Innocents which stands on the site of a former grave yard…I will get back to this when we talk about the catacombs. The public clock "Le défenseur du temps" looks great but according to the guidebook...

...you can also find lots of African ingredients that you won’t find anywhere else.
You could also find some typically African restaurants, but I never try one of those.
Next to the Gare Montparnasse you could find a typically Breton neighbourhood as when Bretons came to Paris to work they arrive at that Station and historically settled next to it. This neighbourhood is located in the 14th district. You could find in here fishmongers and pancakes bars, typical from Brittany.
One of my favourite neighbourhoods is the Jewish one. It’s a great place really pleasant to walk in you can find in there typical restaurants and shops. It’s located next to the rue de Rivoli in the third district. The best streets to stroll are the Rue des Rosiers and la rue du Roi de Sicile.
A little further you could find “ le Marais “ an ex popular...

...After arriving in Paris we found our Hotel to be rather lacking. Honestly it was terrible and when we wanted to leave the owner chased us into the street screaming obscenities en francais. It was like a scene in a Woody Allen Film - 2 Americans and their Frenchy cousin running down the streets of the Marais pulling suitcases and crying from laughter, all while returning the insults.
Thus we arrived at Hotel duMarais out of breath and late at night. Lucky for us at the height of tourist season they had ONE cancellation. We took it! The room was on the 4th floor and we soon discovered that one of us or a suitcase could fit in the elevator. So one of us raced up the stairs and the other remained in the lobby ferrying the luggage into the lift.
We dropped the bags into the smallest hotel room in Paris and headed back down stairs...
